Interactions of toluidine blue with an erythrocyte sialoglycopeptide and chondroitin sulfate A in the same aqueous solutions were spectrophotometrically studied. A conclusion that chondroitin sulfate A as a chromotrope for TB is more active than the sialoglycopeptide, was obtained.

A New Detection of Human Semen by the Use of Paper Chromatography in the Acid Phosphatase Test

Detection of human semen contaminated with blood was carried out by the use of paper chromatography in the acid phosphatase test. Azo-pigment formed in the acid phosphatase test using diazo-coupling reagents was extracted with n-butanol and examined by paper chromatography.

Effect of Trypsin on M and N Blood-Group Antigens on Human Erythrocytes

Crystallized trypsin inactivates M blood-group activity of human red blood cells and renders the treated red cells agglutinable with anti-N serum, and, on the other hand, releases a undialyzable M-active sialoglycopeptide from the red cells. The blood-group activity of N red cells against anti-N serum is hardly affected by the trypsin treatment, but a passable amount of a undialyzable N-active sialoglycopeptide is simultaneously liberated from the red cells.

Detection of Aromatic Aldehydes with Peptone

Aromatic aldehydes and their semicarbazones and thiosemicarbazones react with peptone or tryptophan, in hydrochloride acidity, to show violet, blue, or greenish coloration. This coloration was utilized in the microdetection of such compounds. To a minute amount of the sample or its ethanolic solution, approx. 10-20mg. of peptone or 2 drops of 1w/v% of tryptophan solution and 0.5cc. of conc. hydrochloric acid are added, and the mixture is heated in a water bath for 1-2 minutes. Limit of detection using peptone: 3 γ of p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde.

The separation and differentiation of dextran sulfates (mol. wt. 3800-11300, S content 5.4%-17.4%) are easily performed by using paper electrophoresis with pyridine-acetic acid-water (10:0.4:90, pH 6.4) or 0.05M acetate (pH 4.0) buffer and methylene blue staining reagent.

Sialoglycopeptides Released by Ficin from Human Erythrocytes

Sialoglycopeptides released from human erythrocytes by ficin were isolated, and their non-dialysable hydrolysates were prepared by mild acid hydrolysis. Some properties of their compounds were studied.
