THEv= 3 ← 0S(0)-S(3) ELECTRIC QUADRUPOLE TRANSITIONS OF H₂NEAR 0.8 μm

The very weak S(0)–S(3) electric quadrupole transitions of the second overtone band of molecular hydrogen have been recorded in the laboratory by continuous-wave cavity ring-down spectroscopy near 0.8 μm. The ultrahigh sensitivity of the spectrometer (αmin ∼ 1 × 10−10 cm−1) allows us to detect the considered transitions at a relatively low sample pressure (50–750 torr). The line positions, intensity, and pressure-shift coefficients are derived from a fit of the line shape using a Galatry profile. Compared with literature values, the relative differences between the experimental and theoretical transition intensities are reduced by one order of magnitude, reaching a value of about 2% mainly dependent of the line-shape function adopted for the profile fitting. The thermal equilibrium relative intensity of the S(1) to S(0) line is determined with an accuracy of 0.4%, which can be used to probe the ortho- to para-H2 concentration ratio. Our measurements confirm the quality of the high-level ab initio calculations, including the relativistic and quantum electrodynamics corrections.

Investigation on the influence of phosphor particle size gradient on the optical performance of white light-emitting diodes

In this study, the influence of phosphor particle size gradient on the optical performance of white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) was investigated. Three multi-size phosphor layer structures with different size gradients were proposed. The YAG:Ce phosphor particles of 3 μm and 13 μm were configured at three different locations to form the size gradient. Both simulation and experimental investigations were performed to characterize the optical performance of WLEDs. In the simulation, the proposed WLED packages were modeled by a ray-tracing algorithm, where optical constants were obtained from the Lorenz-Mie theory. In the experimental investigation, a double dispensing-curing method was employed for the fabrication of dual phosphor layer structures. The radiant power, luminous efficacy, correlated color temperature (CCT) as well as angular color uniformity (ACU) were used as the key criteria to evaluate the optical performance.

Test Facility and Results of ITER PF4 Current Leads

The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) high-temperature superconducting (HTS) current leads designed and manufactured by Institute of Plasma Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP), Hefei, China, are used to transmit current to the magnetic coil of the ITER device with lower heat conduction load. PF4 HTS current leads which supply pulse current for PF4 coil are the first pair of all 33 pairs series current leads, have finished its test recently. The cold test was performed in a new test facility in which the current leads were vertically installed, and a dedicated design was added to abate the gravitation produced between the two current leads. Besides the cold test facility, this article will also summarize the major test results, joint resistance, high current-sharing temperature, loss of flow accident (LOFA) time, overheating time, heat conduction loads to 5-K ends, and the consumption of 50-K mass flow.

In this paper, the Pt–Fe 3 C/rGO catalyst is synthesized by an in situ assembly strategy. The strong interaction between Fe 3 C and Pt is favorable for boosting the methanol electrooxidation activity, CO anti-poisoning ability and remarkable stability.

Conversion gain and noise of YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7/ weak-link mixers

Microwave mixing and parametric conversion in YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7/ microbridges were investigated. The devices have been operated as down-converters, converting a 20-GHz radio frequency to a 1.5-GHz intermediate frequency under the action of an 18.5-GHz local oscillator. The microbridges were fabricated both as granular films on MgO substrates possessing grain boundary weak links and as epitaxial films deposited over substrate steps in LaAlO/sub 3/ substrates. The authors have measured conversion gains as high as -8+or-4 dB when mixing on the nonlinear resistive (superconducting-normal) transition and as high as -30 to -40 dB when parametrically converting via the nonlinear inductance of the bridge at bias currents less than the critical current. Output referred noise powers as low as -206 dB/Hz (3*10/sup -21/ W/Hz) have been measured. In some samples, noise switching events were observed.< >

Achieving Ultra‐Broadband Sunlight‐Like Emission in Single‐Phase Phosphors: The Interplay of Structure and Luminescence

Abstract The quest for artificial light sources mimicking sunlight has been a long‐standing endeavor, particularly for applications in anticounterfeiting, agriculture, and color hue detection. Conventional sunlight simulators are often cost‐prohibitive and bulky. Therefore, the development of a series of single‐phase phosphors Ca 9 LiMg 1‐x Al 2x/3 (PO 4 ) 7 :0.1Eu 2+ (x = 0‐0.75) with sunlight‐like emission represents a welcome step towards compact and economical light source alternatives. The phosphors are obtained by an original heterovalent substitution method and emit a broad spectrum spanning from violet to deep red. Notably, the phosphor with x = 0.5 exhibits an impressive full width at half‐maximum of 330 nm. A synergistic interplay of experimental investigations and theory unveils the mechanism behind sunlight‐like emission due to the local structural perturbations introduced by the heterovalent substitution of Al 3+ for Mg 2+ , leading to a varied distribution of Eu 2+ within the lattice. Subsequent characterization of a series of organic dyes combining absorption spectroscopy with convolutional neural network analysis convincingly demonstrates the potential of this phosphor in portable photodetection devices. Broad‐spectrum light source testing empowers the model to precisely differentiate dye patterns. This points to the phosphor being ideal for mimicking sunlight. Beyond this demonstrated application, the phosphor's utility is envisioned in other relevant domains, including visible light communication and smart agriculture.

Modeling and Parametric Study of Light Scattering, Absorption and Emission of Phosphor in a White Light-Emitting Diode

In this study, we proposed and demonstrated an effective approach to model and predict spectral power distribution (SPD) for a phosphor-converted light emitting diode (pc-LED). For emission and excitation, broadband diffuse transmittances of 1 mm YAG:Ce phosphor plates with different concentrations were measured by a spectrophotometer. For emission, it was found that transmittance for all wavelengths was almost identical. This result indicates that emission spectrum prediction could be simplified by simulating the radiant power of the peak wavelength only. At the peak wavelength (560 nm), our simulation results, in which optical constants were calculated by the Lorenz-Mie theory, agreed well with our measurements. For excitation, a novel transmittance measurement setup based on an LED goniophotometer was proposed to obtain the absorption coefficient. By adjusting the optical parameter in our ray-tracing model to fit measured transmittances, accurate absorption coefficients were determined. Based on our calculation and measured optical parameters, we simulated the radiant power of the blue light and yellow light of commercial white LED packages. By expanding the total blue and yellow power into linear combinations of wavelengths in both regions, we successfully predicted the SPD of our LED package. Our predicted SPD has good agreement with the measured results.
