Modelling static impurities

A simple model is presented for the calculation of the quenched average over impurities which are rendered static by setting their mass equal to infinity. The path integral formalism of the second quantized theory contains annealed averages only. The similarity with the Gaussian quenched potential model is discussed.

Elementary open quantum states

It is shown that the mixed states of a closed dynamics support a reduplicated symmetry, which is reduced back to the subgroup of the original symmetry group when the dynamics is open. The elementary components of the open dynamics are defined as operators of the Liouville space in the irreducible representations of the symmetry of the open system. These are tensor operators in the case of rotational symmetry. The case of translation symmetry is discussed in more detail for harmonic systems.

SPINODAL INSTABILITY AND CONFINEMENT

It is pointed out that inhomogeneous condensates or spinodal instabilities suppress the propagation of elementary excitations due to the absorptive zero mode dynamics.This mechanism is shown to be present in the scalar φ 4 model and in Quantum Gravity.It is conjectured that the plane waves states of color charges have vanishing scattering amplitude owing to the color condensate in the vacuum.
