Summer and Autumn Insolation as the Pacemaker of Surface Wind and Precipitation Dynamics Over Tropical Indian Ocean During the Holocene: Insights From Paleoproductivity Records and Paleoclimate Simulations

Abstract Insolation is the engine of monsoon and Walker circulations over the tropical Indian Ocean. Here, we present Holocene coccolith‐related net primary productivity (NPP) signals from two sediment cores retrieved in the wind‐driven coastal upwelling systems off southern India and southern Sumatra. Upwelling‐induced NPP is enhanced during summer and autumn and is a powerful tool to reconstruct atmospheric features at a seasonal scale. Our records indicate that during summer and autumn, westerly winds off southern India strengthened from the early‐Holocene (EH) to late‐Holocene (LH), while southeasterly winds off southern Sumatra strengthened from the EH to mid‐Holocene (MH) and weakened from the MH to LH. Comparisons with previous paleoclimate records and simulations, allow us to confirm such wind patterns at a regional scale and identify distinct atmospheric features associated to insolation before and after the MH. From the EH to MH, as the insolation in the Northern Hemisphere weakens during summer and strengthens during autumn, the equatorial Indian Ocean is characterized by more vigorous Walker and monsoon circulations in summer and autumn, respectively. From the MH to LH, as the insolation weakens in the Northern Hemisphere during summer and over the equator during autumn, the equatorial Indian Ocean is influenced by a general reinforcement of the Walker circulation during both seasons, a feature that we relate to a modern negative IOD‐like mode. The changes in wind result in increasing precipitation over Indonesia and India from EH to MH and over Indonesia from MH to LH as India is getting dryer.

Amorphous to Crystalline Phase Transformation Enables Tunable Persistent Luminescence for Multi‐Mode Optical Information Storage

Abstract Multi‐mode luminescence tuning through in situ crystallization of topological glass holds significance for photonics applications. Here, NaAlSiO 4 :Eu 2+ ‐based glass ceramics are presented as stable persistent luminescence (PersL) materials by controlling the phase transformation in Eu 2+ doped Na 2 O‐Al 2 O 3 ‐SiO 2 from amorphous glass to crystalline nepheline phase. X‐ray and UV excited PersL colors from blue to yellow are realized by adjusting the crystallization duration time, and trap statuses reveal the dynamic PersL process with a trap redeployment from 0.83 to 1.09 eV during the transformation. Optical information storage model is constructed with a structure of stacked emitting layers to enhance storage capacity. X‐ray excited luminescence time‐lapse imaging is further demonstrated with optical memory longer than 5 days. These findings advance the development of superior stable PersL glass ceramics and offer optical manipulation tactics for multi‐mode optical information storage applications.

Variations of Primary Productivity in the Northwestern Arabian Sea During the Last 23,000 Years and Their Paleoclimatological Implications

Abstract The Arabian Sea (AS) is one of the most productive oceanic regions in the world due to several monsoon‐related processes that can increase nutrients contents in the euphotic zone. Previous studies of the imprint of oceanic primary productivity (PP) in AS sediments yielded diverse results depending on the studied area and the chosen proxies, with unprecise paleoclimatic interpretations. Here, we provide multi‐decennial PP and coastal upwelling dynamic records off northern Oman over the last 23 Kyr, based on the analysis of coccoliths from sediment core MD00‐2354. Our results have been compared with previous paleoenvironmental records as well as new modeling data to get precise paleoclimatic interpretations. We document higher PP and weaker coastal upwelling during the Last Glacial Maximum relative to the Holocene, and significant millennial‐scale variations over the last deglaciation corresponding to the fluctuations of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation strength. Higher PP and weaker upwelling are found during the cold stadials, while lower PP and stronger upwelling during the warm interstadial. We propose that the increases of PP were driven by increased bioavailable nutrient content in surface waters under both stronger winter monsoon conditions that strengthened the convective mixing, and higher aeolian inputs. Over the Holocene, stronger upwelling and slightly lower PP are found during the Early‐Mid Holocene, when higher summer insolation triggered stronger summer monsoon. At that time, the lower PP was probably the result of restricted advection of eutrophic summer upwelling seawater under negative wind stress curls and less aeolian inputs.

Energy‐Trapping Management in X‐Ray Storage Phosphors for Flexible 3D Imaging

X-ray imaging has received sustained attention for healthcare diagnostics and nondestructive inspection. To develop photonic materials with tunable photophysical properties in principle accelerates radiation detection technologies. Here the rational design and synthesis of doped halide perovskite CsCdCl3 :Mn2+ , R4+ (R = Ti, Zr, Hf, and Sn) are reported as next generation X-ray storage phosphors, and the capability is greatly improved by trap management via Mn2+ site occupation manipulation and heterovalent substitution. Specially, CsCdCl3 :Mn2+ , Zr4+ displays zero-thermal-quenching (TQ) radioluminescence and anti-TQ X-ray-activated persistent luminescence even up to 448 K, further revealing the charge-carrier compensation and redeployment mechanisms. X-ray imaging with the resolution of 12.5 lp mm-1 is demonstrated, and convenient 3D X-ray imaging for the curved objects is realized in a time-lapse manner. This work demonstrates efficient modulation of energy traps to achieve high storage capacities and promote future research into flexible X-ray detectors.

Narrow‐Band Green‐Emitting Hybrid Organic–Inorganic Eu (II)‐Iodides for Next‐Generation Micro‐LED Displays

Abstract Low‐dimensional metal halide perovskites are an emerging class of light‐emitting materials for LED‐based displays; however, their B‐site cations are confined to ns 2 , d 5, and d 10 metals. Here, the design of divalent rare earth ions at B‐site is presented and a novel Eu(II)‐based iodide hybrid is reported with efficient (PLQY ≈98%) narrow‐band (FWHM ≈43 nm) green emission and high thermal stability (97%@150 °C). Owing to reduced lattice vibrations and shrunken average distance of Eu(II)‐iodide bonds in the face‐sharing 1D‐structure, photoluminescence from Eu(II) 4 f ‐5 d transition appears along with elevated crystal‐field splitting of 5 d energy level. The Eu(II)‐based iodide hybrid is further demonstrated for color‐pure green phosphor‐converted LEDs with a maximum brightness of ≈396 000 cd m −2 and photoelectric efficiency of 29.2%. High‐resolution micrometer‐scale light‐emitting diode (micro‐LED) displays (2540 PPI) via the solution‐processed screen is also presented. This work thus showcases a compelling narrow‐band green emitter for commercial micro‐LED displays.
