Effect of Water Treatment on Water Regime in Farmland Black Soil

A stationary field experiment was carried out to investigate effect of water treatment on farmland water regime,using a neutron probe.Results show that after a long-term experiment soil water storage in the 0—110 cm soil layer followed an order of suitable water treatmentrainfall treatmentdry treatment with the first two being 23.4% and 12.9%,respectively,higher than the last.During the soybean growing season,soil water storage in all the treatments displayed a trend of seasonal variation,such as declining-rising-declining-rising,which was closely related to rainfall distribution during the season.In terms of moisture consumption by soybean,the three treatments followed a decreasing order of suitable water treatmentrainfall treatmentdry treatment,and their value was 459.4,420.3,and 326.4 mm,respectively.Soybean water consumption varied slightly between treatments at all growth stages,during the period(2008-05-01—2008-06-15) when they were free of the influence of water control,but significantly in the period when they were under the influence of water control.The water-inflow/water-consumption ratio demonstrated that the black soil was quite high in capability of adjusting water regime.Water use efficiency of the dry treatment,the rainfall treatment and the suitable water treatment was 3.9,4.8 and 5.4 kg·hm-2·mm-1,respectively,indicating that irrigation could enhance water use efficiency in normal years in black soil.

Effects of Land Use on Seasonal Change of Soil Water in the Black Soil Zone of Northeast China

Three long-term field trials were selected and soil water measured to determine seasonal change of soil water in Northeast China. During growing seasons soil water could be recharged in the wet (2005) and normal (2008) years for grassland (GL), farmland (FL), and bare land (BL), but decreased continuously in the dry year (2004) with exception of BL. The average soil water storage (SWS) in three selected years was 385 mm, 372 mm, and 355 mm for BL, GL, and FL. The conversion from GL to FL decreased SWS.

Labile organic carbon fractions drive soil microbial communities after long-term fertilization

Microbial communities and soil organic carbon (SOC) fractions are sensitive indicators for monitoring soil quality and crop yield. But the effects of fertilization on relationship between SOC fractions and microbial community in black soil are remain unclear. Focused on this point, we performed the present study with a maize monocropping system suffered different fertilization treatments, including non-fertilization (CK), chemical fertilization (CF), chemical fertilizer with straw (CFS) and organic manure (OM). The contents and fractions of SOC were measured, whereas the microbial community structure was assessed by Illumina sequencing technology. As results, the highest contents of active SOC fractions were found in the OM treatment, while the highest maize yield was obtained in the CFS treatment. Proteobacteria were widely distributed in all the fertilization treatments. The dominant fungal phyla were Ascomycota in CK, CF and OM, and Basidiomycota in CFS treatment. Principal coordinate analysis revealed similar bacterial communities in CF and CFS, and similar fungal communities in CF and CK. Redundancy analysis demonstrated that microbial biomass carbon (MBC) and easily oxidized organic carbon (EOC) had relatively large influences on bacterial communities, while light fraction of organic carbon (LFOC) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) were the primary factors affecting soil fungal communities. Correlations between soil bacterial/fungal communities and the active SOC fractions evidenced that fertilization, especially organic manure application, stimulated soil bacteria and fungi to participate in SOC turnover. The understanding of bacterial/fungal community structure linked to active SOC fractions under different fertilization managements will contribute to improving the productivity and quality of black soil under the sustainable management.

Black soil field water characteristics in dry years

在中国科学院海伦农田生态系统国家野外科学观测研究站, 应用长期定位试验研究了干旱年份不同施肥处理下的黑土农田水分状况。结果表明:在干旱年份, 大气降水不能满足玉米对水分的需求, 土壤利用"土壤水库"中的水分进行补给, 在玉米全生育期土壤供水量占玉米耗水量的比例为22.23%~25.99%;肥料的施用能够调节土壤的供水能力, 表现为化肥+有机肥处理>化肥处理>无肥处理;玉米的耗水量和耗水强度也表现出相同趋势;肥料的施用, 特别是化肥和有机肥配合施用能够提高玉米的水分利用效率。

Gas Emissions and Environmental Benefits of Wheat Cultivated under Different Fertilization Managements in Mollisols

The NH3, N2O and CO2 emissions from farmland soil pose a great threat to the environment, and the application of organic fertilizer and other reasonable fertilization measures can reduce soil gas emissions. However, research into greenhouse gas emissions and environmental benefits under the combined measures of partial substitution of organic fertilizer and phased application of chemical fertilizer is limited. Herein, a field experiment involving soil gas emission monitoring was conducted to study the effects of chemical fertilizer application in stages on Mollisols’ gas emissions and environmental benefits based on the partial replacement of chemical fertilizer with organic fertilizer. Five treatments were set up, including conventional nitrogen application (CF); no nitrogen application (N0); and one-stage (N1), two-stage (N2) and three-stage (N3) application of chemical nitrogen based on 25% of chemical nitrogen being replaced with organic fertilizer. The results showed that N1 had the best emission reduction. Compared with CF, N1 reduced NH3 volatilization and N2O and CO2 emission accumulation by 27.64%, 12.09% and 15.48%, respectively. Compared with N2 and N3, N1 could better reduce the soil urease, nitrate reductase, catalase and β-glucosidase activities, reduce the rate of the conversion of urea and organic carbon, increase the content of NH4+-N in the soil and reduce the NH3 volatilization rate and N2O and CO2 emission rates. A comprehensive analysis showed that N1 showed the best effects in reducing the soil gas emission rate, and environmental cost.
