Light Induced Diastereoselective Ketoesterification To Access 6,5-Fused Tetrahydrobenzofuranones in Batch and Continuous Flow Conditions

Ketoesterification stands as a pivotal technique in organic synthesis, particularly due to its essential role in the construction of numerous natural products and bioactive compounds. In this study, we have successfully accomplished a visible-light-induced cyclization and diastereoselective direct ketoesterification of cyclohexadienones, facilitating access to cis 6,5-fused tetrahydrobenzofuranone derivatives. The utilization of TEMPO radical quenching experiments has provided insights, suggesting an ionic mechanism underlying this methodology. Additionally, the regioselective addition of 2-oxo-2-phenylacetate to the least hindered side in a cis-selective fashion makes this protocol more appealing toward natural product development. Incorporation of a continuous flow reaction into the batch protocol has notably bolstered the efficiency and reaction rate. Furthermore, the demonstration of gram-scale reactions in the flow setup and synthetic utility with NaOH underscore the scalability and practical applicability of this approach.

A conventional and solid-state synthesis, biological activity, and molecular docking studies of 6-arylbenzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-a] [1,8]naphthyridin-10-ols

An effective, practical, and simple approach toward the preparation of highly-substituted 6-arylbenzo[4, 5]imidazo[1,2-a][1,8]naphthyridin-10-ols 6(a-h) by the reaction of 3-aryl-1,8-naphthyridin-2-amines 3(a-h) with benzoquinone 4 in acid catalyzed cyclization under solid-state method, as well as conventional conditions, has been described. The products are obtained in good yields and in a solid of high purity. The major advantages of solid states are easy workup, low costs, short reaction time, good efficacy, and environment-friendly procedure. The newly synthesized compounds were thoroughly characterized using spectral data and elemental analyses. All compounds were screened for their biological evaluation. Predominantly 6b and 6c compounds showed the highest antibacterial activity. Moreover, all the synthesized compounds were docked against topoisomerase II DNA gyrase enzyme.

A highly efficient and simple procedure has been developed for the synthesis of 9‐(3‐fluoro‐4‐methoxyphenyl)‐6‐aryl‐[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3‐ a ][1,8] naphthyridines by ionic liquid Cu(II) oxidative cyclization of 2‐(2‐(3‐fluoro‐4‐methoxybenzylidene)hydrazinyl)‐3‐phenyl‐1,8‐naphthyridine under microwave irradiation. Synthesized compounds have been described by microanalysis, infrared, 1 H NMR spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. Sixteen of the synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity against bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus , Bacillus subtilis , Escherichia coli , and Klebsiella pneumoniae , as well as fungi, such as Aspergillus flavus and Fusarium oxysporum . Results of the antimicrobial screening showed that the compounds 3b , 3g , and 3j have maximal zones of inhibition against the tested bacterial strains. Docking studies were carried out for the three most active compounds 3b , 3g , and 3j along with the inactive compound 3a .

Green Design, Synthesis Of Novel 2-Methoxy-3-Aryl-1,8-Naphthyridines and Their Antimicrobial Activity and Molecular Docking Study

An eﬃcient and rapid synthesis of novel substituted 2-methoxy-3-aryl-1,8-naphthyridines 5(a-j) by the reaction of 2-chloro-3-aryl-1,8-naphthyridines with sodium methoxide in ethanol under controlled microwave irradiation as well as conventional methods are described. The products are obtained in very good yields and in a state of high purity. The elemental analysis, spectral data and mass spectral data were used to characterize all of the novel analogs. The newly synthesized molecules were screened for their antimicrobial activity. In vitro study reveals the antimicrobial activity of compounds 5e and 5g has shown excellent activity with tested microbes. Furthermore, the results of molecular docking confirmed the experimental findings.

Abstract An efficient eco-friendly synthesis of 4-aryl tetrazolo[1,5-a][1,8]naphthyridine derivatives have been successfully prepared through microwave method in short reaction time. The microwave method has unique advantages, short reaction time, easy workup procedure, and simple purification of the products. Synthesized the entire molecule evaluated for their antimicrobial activity among them compounds 6g and 6a demonstrated highest anti-microbial activity. Moreover, in silico molecular modeling evaluation has done by considering docking scores, hydrogen bond interactions, affinity, and the short distance between ligand and receptor. All the molecules good docking results have shown that binding interactions with the target protein and obtained results were well complemented to the antimicrobial activity.

Probiotic bacteria as growth promoter and biocontrol agent against Aeromonas hydrophila in Catla catla (Hamilton, 1822)

The current study reveals the antagonistic effect of Lactobacillus plantarum and Bacillus megaterium against Aeromonas hydrophila . Both probiotic bacteria ( L. plantarum and B. megaterium ) were added to commercial fish diet with 35% crude protein to evaluate their effect on the growth performance and survival rate, besides blood parameters like red blood cell (RBC) and white blood cell (WBC) counts in Catla catla. Two hundred and forty catla fingerlings with an average body weight of 6.10 g per fish were equally divided into four treatments of three replicates. T1 was given basal diet (control), T2 with L. plantarum (initial number of 107 cells g diet-1), T3 with B. megaterium (initial number of 107 cells g diet-1), and T4 was given basal diet with both L. plantarum and B. megaterium (mixed in 1:1 ratio). The experimental period was 60 days. Fish were challenged by A. hydrophila (3% of total body weight i.e., 107 ± 1 cells g – 1) via feed and observed for 15 days. The best growth rate, feed utilization and survival rate were noticed in T2 WBC and plasma protein level gradually decreased in T4, but RBC level increased in T4. The challenged fish of T4 showed 25% mortality, while T1, T2 and T3 showed 80%, 35% and 50% mortality respectively. Combination of two probiotics ( L. plantarum and B. megaterium ) has significantly enhanced fish growth and health indicating the potential use of a combination of L. plantarum and B. megaterium as feed probiotic in aquaculture.
