[Elective detection of thymus epithelium and assessment of the degree of functional and pathological involution of the organ in mice].

With the help of antibodies-containing serum reacting with the thymus reticulum epithelial cells components by immunofluorescence method the thymus parenchimal tissue in mice with functional and pathological involution has been detected electively. In spite of large thymus changes in hairless mice with the mutation of gene hrrhy in 14-th chromosome of B10.R109/Y animals the basal cells antigen in epithelial reticulum has been preserved. It permits to estimate thymus involution level of this organ. Low lymphocyte content in the thymus of C57BL/6 mice is accompanied by total decamouflage of the epithelium. The functional thymus involution of pregnant mice is characterized by the luminescence of large number of epithelial cells, the restoration of organ after the delivery--by their few number. The elective detection of thymus epithelium many serve as additional test for the estimation of functional and pathological involution level.

[The system of evaluation of changes in the epithelial reticulum in the physiological and pathological transformation of the thymus gland].

The system for the immunomorphological evaluation of the degree of the human and animal thymus transformation is suggested. The degree of the epithelium demasking and the character of lymphocyte emigration were revealed due to the increase of the surface and alteration of the size of epithelial cells which under normal conditions are completely screened by lymphocytes. This was done by means of the fluorescent antibodies to the cells of epithelial reticulum of the thymic lobule cortex and some cells of the medulla layer (prekeratins). This system permits a more circumstantial characteristics of the histological changes in the thymus when the cortical part of the lobule loses the capacity for lymphocyte retention in the epithelial reticulum.

[Immunological changes in the thymus epithelial tissue of mice during accidental involution].

Using sera containing antibodies to antigens of epithelial reticular cells it is possible to detect by immunofluorescence early stages of organ accidental involution and to trace parenchyma demasking that results from lymphocyte migration upon injection of prednisolone, azathioprin or their combinations. Prior to the drug administration only certain short thin processes of epithelial cells masked by a great number of lymphoid elements are detectable in the cortical zone of the thymus. Injection of 10-40 mg/kg prednisolone, 100-200 mg/kg azathioprin or their combinations causes stable different-degree demasking of the epithelial reticulum seen during immunofluorescence as a network of fluorescent processes. Administration of drug combinations also causes marked attenuation of the reaction, probably resulting from dystrophic changes in thymic epithelial cells.

[Prevention of postpartum inflammatory diseases in puerperae with pyelonephritis and toxemia].

Puerperae with acute and chronic pyelonephritis complicated by gestosis often develop postpartum inflammatory complications in the presence of marked deficiency of T lymphocytes and phagocytic function. Clinical criteria are suggested to single out risk groups. Prophylactic injections of leukinferon (alpha-interferon) and other immune response first phase cytokines in complex with metabolic agents help almost normalize the immunologic parameters in the majority of puerperae within 3-6 days and reduce threefold the incidence of early and late postpartum inflammatory complications.

[Expression of receptors for human alpha- and gamma-interferons on the surface of peripheral blood mononuclear cells in viral infections].

Expression of receptors on peripheral blood mononuclears of donors and patients with viral infections during therapy was studied using FITC-labeled monoclonal antiidiotypical antibodies with the "internal image" of human alpha- and gamma-interferons and monoclonal antibodies to these interferons. Activation of the immune system caused by infection modifies the expression of interferon receptors and leads to appearance of membrane-bound interferons, mainly gamma-interferon.

[The clinico-immunological effects of leukinferon in the treatment of patients with acute suppurative pyelonephritis].

The effect of leukinferon (LKF) administration to 20 patients with acute renal inflammation was evaluated versus the effect of basic therapy given to 19 matched patients. A short course of LKF (3 injections) promoted more rapid discontinuation of the fever, recovery of satisfactory general condition, healing of postoperative wounds. Immunologically, the test subjects exhibited a rise in the previously low levels of lymphocytes, B-cells, T-helpers, IgA and IgG. The proportion of T-lymphocyte subpopulations improved and the activity of EC-cells enhanced. It is thought valid to use LKF in acute renal inflammation and surgical urological affections.

[The clinical efficacy in using leukinferon in adults with diseases caused by the varicella-zoster virus].

To achieve more effective treatment of varicella (chickenpox) and herpes zoster in adults, a wide-spectrum immunocorrective agent containing, together with alpha-interferon, a number of other cytokines of the first phase of immune response was used. In patients with the different severity of disease leukinferon induced a rapid decrease in the severity of the disease, arrested the development of new elements on the skin and the buccal mucosa, and reduced the duration of the fever period. When used in such forms as intramuscular injections in combination with the irrigation of the buccal mucosa and ointment, leukinferon proved to be a highly effective preparation for the treatment of diseases caused by varicella-zoster virus.

[Efficiency of immunocorrection using cytokines in the therapy of papillomavirus infection].

The data of the immunological examination and the results of treatment of 86 patients with papillomavirus infection (PVI) are presented. The multifactor suppression of cell-mediated and humoral immunity was established. The degree of immune disturbances correlated with the spread and severity of lesions. The use of systemic injections of cytokines (leukinferon and concentrated interferon) in low doses as adjuvant therapy with laser-radiosurgery led to the normalization of most immunological characteristics and the course of PVI without relapses.

[Effects of leukinferon on the phagocytic function of puerperal blood].

Leukinferon effects on the phagocytic activities of the monocytes and polymorphonuclear leukocytes of 12 pregnant women and puerperants with various chronic infectious diseases were studied in vitro. Blood samples of 5 female donors were examined for control. It was found possible to stimulate and correct phagocytic function by leukinferon, proceeding from the initial function of the blood cells and the presence of serum factors. The immunocorrecting properties of leukinferon were found particularly valuable in cases with immunodeficiencies, for infectious diseases and labor complications could thus be prevented in this high-risk group of puerperants.
