Node identification for placing EVs and PAs in a distribution network

Voltage support to the Distribution Node (DN) is necessary requirement due to fluctuations of time varying reactive load. The Photovoltaic's Arrays (PAs) and Electric Vehicles (EVs) provide active and reactive power support to DN. Voltage support can be achieved at DN node from RES and EVs. In this paper, coordination of EVs and PAs are integrated with DN to improve the voltage profile. The coordination can be achieved by providing active and reactive power support through PAs and the EVs charge/discharge (support/inject) based on the node voltage. The bulk numbers of EVs are connected to the DN through point of common coupling (PCC) which is called as Charging Station (CS). Many PAs are used to generate power for DN support; it's known as DN Supporting Point (DNSP). The main focus of this work is to predict the most accurate location of CS and DNSP. A 33kV Distribution System (DS) of Guwahati city is modeled in MATLAB Simulink environment with four types of active and reactive load profiles. Typical DS having 48 nodes, the CS and DNSP are connected in each node of the DS. To control the power flow of the CS and DNSP, fuzzy based control strategies and optimal aggregator has been implemented. Also, probability distribution function has been used to find the scheduled arrival of EVs at CS. Voltage, power and energy of the CS and DNSP are compared.

Small‐scale solar plants coupled with smart public transport system and its coordination with the grid

In this study, small-scale solar plants (SPs) coupled with smart public transport system and its coordination with the grid have been presented. Electric buses (EBs) are used for mass transportation and charged from the energy points provided through the ring road of the Guwahati city, Assam, India. Both, the energy storage device and the small-scale SP are connected to each energy point. The maximum priority is given to use solar energy while reducing the energy consumption from the grid to support the EBs. Each energy point consists of a fuzzy logic controller to perform the control actions. The simulations have been carried out to show the system response for all the seasons of a year.

Parameter Estimation and Control of Time Delay SISO Systems

The paper presents a relay feedback experiment for identification and model-based control of a class of time delay single-input single-output (SISO) systems. When a hysteresis relay is fed back to an unknown system, sustained oscillations are yielded at the system output around the setpoint broadly known as limit cycle. Based on limit cycle information and relay settings, a set of state space based explicit expressions is deduced for accurate identification of system dynamics in terms of first order plus time delay (FOPTD) and second order plus time delay (SOPTD) transfer function models. Following the system identification, a set of balanced tuning rules for a proportional-integral (PI) controller is suggested to achieve an enhanced closed loop transient performance. Numerical simulation of well known examples from literature and experimental results from level control system are illustrated for validation of the proposed identification and control schemes.

Automatic generation control of an interconnected hydrothermal power system

This paper deals with automatic generation control of an interconnected hydrothermal system considering reheat type turbine in thermal plant area and low head turbine in hydro plant area using optimal controllers. The dynamical response of the load frequency control problem in an interconnected power system under consideration is improved with a practical viewpoint by designing the optimal output feedback controller. The optimal control methods are proposed and their dynamic responses are compared. The optimal control is determined by minimizing a performance index under the proposed output feedback conditions. The results indicate that the controllers exhibit better performance. In fact, the control systems designed on these methods satisfy the load frequency control requirements with a reasonable dynamic response.

Fixed‐Time State Observer‐Based Robust Adaptive Neural Fault‐Tolerant Control for a Quadrotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

ABSTRACT This paper presents a fixed‐time state observer‐based robust adaptive neural fault‐tolerant control (RANFTC) for attitude and altitude tracking and control of quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), considering multiple actuator faults, parametric uncertainty, and unknown external disturbances simultaneously. A novel fixed‐time state error estimation based on sliding mode observer is designed, which is independent of initial conditions. A proportional–integral–derivative (PID) based sliding mode control (SMC) is proposed to handle actuator faults and unknown disturbances in combination with the fixed‐time observer within the fault‐tolerant control (FTC) design scheme. The radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) is employed with the controller to approximate the uncertain parameters of the system. Furthermore, two new adaptive laws are designed to estimate the sudden actuator fault and the unknown upper bound of disturbances independently. Implementing these estimation schemes avoids overestimation, enhances the robustness of the presented controller, and substantially eliminates the control chattering problem. By applying the Lyapunov stability concept, the suggested control strategy guarantees that the states of the quadrotor UAV converge to the origin in a finite time. Finally, simulation studies are conducted to demonstrate the tracking performance and highlight the effectiveness of the proposed FTC design compared to the existing FTC methods.

Improved parallel cascade control structure for time delay processes

Parallel cascade control structure is commonly used in the operation of process industries to reject disturbances that have a rapid effect on a secondary measured state, before the primary measured variable is affected. The investigations on PID tuning rules for SISO systems are many; however the literature about synthesis methods for designing and tuning cascade control structures appears to be rather limited. In this paper, the usefulness of a new dead time compensator scheme in the outer loop of the parallel cascade control structure is investigated. The robust control performances can be obtained using this method. Simulation results show the usefulness and superiority of the proposed control method over the existing ones.

H∞ Control of Smooth Nonlinear Systems

This paper considers the L2 gain analysis of a smooth discrete-time nonlinear system. The analysis hinges on a piecewise affine approximation, where we partition the state-space into a few polyhedral cells. In each polyhedral cell, the nonlinear system is approximated by a piecewise affine system. To begin with, conditions are derived such that the L2 gain of the nonlinear system is less than or equal to a given γ > 0. Then an H∞ controller is designed which guarantees that the resulting closed-loop system has an L2 gain that is less than or equal to a prescribed value γ > 0 while maintaining stability.
