Study the effect of boron levels on yield attributes of rice crop

The present study entitled “Response of Boron Levels and Application Methods on Growth and Yield of Rice (Oryza sativa L.)” in north- western plain zone of India was carried out at School of Agricultural Science and Engineering, IFTM University, Moradabad in 2018-19. The ten treatments T1 = 100% RDF (150 :60 :40 kg ha-1); T2 = 100% RDF + 0.5 kg B ha-1 (SA); T3 = 100% RDF + 0.5 kg B ha-1(SA) + 0.2% B spray at 25 & 50 DAT; T4 = 100% RDF + 0.5 kg B ha-1 (SA) + 0.3% B spray at 25 & 50 DAT; T5 = 100% RDF + 1.0 kg B ha-1(SA); T6 = 100% RDF + 1.0 kg B ha-1 (SA) + 0.2% B spray at 25 & 50 DAT; T7 = 100% RDF + 1.0 kg B ha-1 (SA) + 0.3% B spray at 25 & 50 DAT; T8 = 100% RDF + 2.0 kg B ha-1; T9 = 100% RDF + 2.0 kg B ha-1 (SA) + 0.2% B spray at 25 & 50 DAT; T10 = 100% RDF + 2.0 kg B ha-1 (SA) + 0.3% B spray at 25 & 50 DAT combination were tested in randomized block design (RBD) with three replication. T10 observed significant increase in all yield attributes viz., no. of tillers per m2 area, panicle length (cm), number of filled grain panicle-1, number of unfilled grain panicle-1, 1000- seed weight (g), grain yield (q ha-1), biological yield (q ha-1) and harvest index respectively, over rest of the treatments. In T10 treatments significantly increased the no. of tillers m2 area (199.65, 210.70, 212.50 and 213.15) 30, 60, 90 and harvest stage, fresh weight (66.79 g, 147.50 g, 163.00 g and 163.05 g plant-1) at 30, 60, 90 and harvest stage, panicle length (31.55 cm), number of filled grain panicle-1 (191.20), number of unfilled grain panicle-1 (20.80), biological yield (7.7 t, 10.5 t and 18.1 t ha-1) and harvest index (42.26%) respectively.

Thermal properties of fluorinated graphene

Large-scale atomistic simulations using the reactive force field approach are implemented to investigate the thermomechanical properties of fluorinated graphene (FG). A set of parameters for the reactive force field potential optimized to reproduce key quantum mechanical properties of relevant carbon-fluorine cluster systems are presented. Molecular dynamics simulations are used to investigate the thermal rippling behavior of FG and its mechanical properties and compare them with graphene, graphane and a sheet of boron nitride. The mean square value of the height fluctuations $\ensuremath{\langle}{h}^{2}\ensuremath{\rangle}$ and the height-height correlation function $H(q)$ for different system sizes and temperatures show that FG is an unrippled system in contrast to the thermal rippling behavior of graphene. The effective Young's modulus of a flake of fluorinated graphene is obtained to be 273 N/m and 250 N/m for a flake of FG under uniaxial strain along armchair and zigzag directions, respectively.

Melting of Partially Fluorinated Graphene: From Detachment of Fluorine Atoms to Large Defects and Random Coils

The melting of fluorographene is very unusual and depends strongly on the degree of fluorination. For temperatures below 1000 K, fully fluorinated graphene (FFG) is thermomechanically more stable than graphene but at Tm ≈ 2800 K FFG transits to random coils which is almost 2 times lower than the melting temperature of graphene, i.e., 5300 K. For fluorinated graphene up to 30% ripples causes detachment of individual F-atoms around 2000 K, while for 40%–60% fluorination large defects are formed beyond 1500 K and beyond 60% of fluorination F-atoms remain bonded to graphene until melting. The results agree with recent experiments on the dependence of the reversibility of the fluorination process on the percentage of fluorination.

Electronic properties of graphene nano-flakes: Energy gap, permanent dipole, termination effect, and Raman spectroscopy

The electronic properties of graphene nano-flakes (GNFs) with different edge passivation are investigated by using density functional theory. Passivation with F and H atoms is considered: C(N(c)) X(N(x)) (X = F or H). We studied GNFs with 10 < Nc < 56 and limit ourselves to the lowest energy configurations. We found that: (i) the energy difference Δ between the highest occupied molecular orbital and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital decreases with Nc, (ii) topological defects (pentagon and heptagon) break the symmetry of the GNFs and enhance the electric polarization, (iii) the mutual interaction of bilayer GNFs can be understood by dipole-dipole interaction which were found sensitive to the relative orientation of the GNFs, (iv) the permanent dipoles depend on the edge terminated atom, while the energy gap is independent of it, and (v) the presence of heptagon and pentagon defects in the GNFs results in the largest difference between the energy of the spin-up and spin-down electrons which is larger for the H-passivated GNFs as compared to F-passivated GNFs. Our study shows clearly the effect of geometry, size, termination, and bilayer on the electronic properties of small GNFs. This study reveals important features of graphene nano-flakes which can be detected using Raman spectroscopy.

Rice is one of the most widely grown cereal crops in the world and is the staple food of more of the world's population. Environmental degradation, including pollution, increase in night time temperature due to global warming reductions in suitable arable land, water, labour and energy dependent fertilizer provide constraints to rice productivity. Drought stress is a major abiotic threat to rice production and its yield stability which leads to production of drought tolerant rice cultivars. Linkage analysis will help us to identify the genes contributing to drought tolerance in rice and their relative contribution to the very important trait.
