Resistivity and thermoelectric power of liquid lithium and sodium from Harrison's first principle

The nonlocal pseudopotential formalism of Harrison is applied to the problem of resistivity and thermoelectric power of liquid metals, lithium and sodium. Slater's recent value of α in the Xα-exchange is used. Exchange and correlation between the conduction electrons are taken into account using the modified dielectric function proposed by Vashishta and Singwi. The results agree well with the experimental values. Der nichtlokale Pseudopotentialformalismus von Harrison wird auf das Problem der Leitfähigkeit und Thermospannung in flüssigen Metallen, Lithirm und Natrium, angewendet. Der von Slater kürzlich angegebene Wert von α im Xα-Austausch wird benutzt. Austausch- und Korrelationseffekte zwischen den Leitungselektronen werden durch die modifizierte, von Vashishta und Singwi vorgeschlagene dielektrische Funktion berücksichtigt. Die Ergebnisse stimmen gut mit den experimentellen Werten überein.

In this study Eighty (80) University level football and handball players from the topography of North, South, East and West zones were selected as the subjects at random and their age was between 18 to 25 years. Body Height was measured through Stadiometer. It is concluded from the study that the Football players of East zone had greater Anxiety than North, South and West zone players.

The kinase module of the Mediator complex: an important signalling processor for the development and survival of plants

Mediator, a multisubunit protein complex, is a signal processor that conveys regulatory information from transcription factors to RNA polymerase II and therefore plays an important role in the regulation of gene expression. This megadalton complex comprises four modules, namely, the head, middle, tail, and kinase modules. The first three modules form the core part of the complex, whereas association of the kinase module is facultative. The kinase module is able to alter the function of Mediator and has been established as a major transcriptional regulator of numerous developmental and biochemical processes. The kinase module consists of MED12, MED13, CycC, and kinase CDK8. Upon association with Mediator, the kinase module can alter its structure and function dramatically. In the past decade, research has established that the kinase module is very important for plant growth and development, and in the fight against biotic and abiotic challenges. However, there has been no comprehensive review discussing these findings in detail and depth. In this review, we survey the regulation of kinase module subunits and highlight their many functions in plants. Coordination between the subunits to process different signals for optimum plant growth and development is also discussed.

Convergence of Stress‐Induced Hormone Signaling Pathways on a Transcriptional Co‐Factor

Mediator is a massive and flexible complex involved in eukaryotic gene regulation. Basically, it acts as a bridge between a transcription factor and transcriptional machinery. However, latest reports suggest that Mediator is involved in almost all the aspects of gene transcription including initiation of transcription, elongation of transcript, splicing of transcript, gene looping, and termination of transcription. The Mediator complex consists of several subunits, which are arranged in different modules named Head, Middle, Tail, and Kinase. Few subunits have not yet been assigned to any module. In Arabidopsis, it seems that different compositions of subunits might form functional complexes in different contexts and scenarios as different stresses and phytohormones affect transcript abundance of specific set of these subunit genes. Although the Mediator complex is required in the basic mechanism of transcription initiation and regulation of almost all the class II genes, several individual subunits have been found to be important in specific transcriptional responses. In this chapter, we discuss involvement of Mediator subunits in stress responses. Since hormones play an important role in stress responses, we explain the known and probable involvement of Mediator in phytohormone mediated transcriptional responses evoked by different biotic and abiotic stresses in plants.

Designing a Mini-Core Collection Effectively Representing 3004 Diverse Rice Accessions

Genetic diversity provides the foundation for plant breeding and genetic research. Over 3000 rice genomes were recently sequenced as part of the 3K Rice Genome (3KRG) Project. We added four additional Indian rice accessions to create a panel of 3004 accessions. However, such a large collection of germplasm is difficult to preserve and evaluate. The construction of core and mini-core collections is an efficient method for the management of genetic resources. In this study, we developed a mini-core comprising 520 accessions that captured most of the SNPs and represented all of the phenotypes and geographic regions from the original panel. Equivalent California Bearing Ratios of Multiaxial Geogrid-Stabilized Aggregates over Weak Subgrade

Geosynthetics have been successfully used to stabilize granular aggregate over weak subgrade in recent years. In some actual applications, geosynthetics are first used to stabilize aggregates over weak subgrade as construction platforms to carry construction loads, and then the construction platforms become subgrade in pavement structures. Unfortunately, no commonly accepted method is available to quantify the benefit of construction platforms with geosynthetics in pavement design. This study aimed to quantify this benefit by treating the geosynthetic-stabilized construction platform as an "equivalent subgrade." The quantification was based on the cyclic plate loading test results of nine test sections of nonstabilized and multiaxial geogrid-stabilized aggregate over weak subgrade and five test sections of homogeneous subgrade with California bearing ratios (CBRs) ranging from 2.9 to 9.5. The permanent deformations of these test sections were recorded and used to estimate the equivalent CBR values of the geogrid-stabilized aggregate over weak subgrade. The test sections that had the same performance (i.e., permanent deformation) under the same number of loading cycles were considered equivalent. The analysis of test results shows that the equivalent CBR values of the nonstabilized and geogrid-stabilized test sections decreased with the increase of the load intensity. The percent of equivalent CBR increase of the granular bases over the weak subgrade due to the inclusion of a geogrid ranged from 30% to 85%.
