Synthesis and Characterization of Mn[sup 2+] doped ZnS Nanoparticles Capped with Thio Glycolic Acid

Study of Mn2+ doped ZnS nanoparticles capped with Thio Glycolic Acid has been done. These nanoparticles are prepared by colloidal synthesis process with different dopent concentrations based on Ostwald ripening and surface passivation at different temperature. Size of these nanoparticles was estimated by Scherrer method from X‐ray diffraction (XRD) pattern. Materials have been characterized by SEM and UV‐Visible spectroscopy techniques. SEM studies show the morphology of nanostructure. The UV‐Visible absorption spectra depicts blue shift relative to bulk material in absorption energy and show the effect of temperature on particle size by red shifting, while photoluminescence (PL) spectra suggests domination of surface state and near band edge emission. The above study reveals that this material may be suitable for optoelectronics applications.

Synthesis And Characterization Of Silver Sulfide Nanoparticles Of Various Morphologies Using Chitosan As Stabilizer

Synthesis of Silver Sulfide nanoparticles of various morphologies were successfully done through colloidal synthesis technique at relatively low temperature using Chitosan bio polymer as stabilizer. The effect of change in stabilizer concentration, reagent concentrations and reaction temperature at constant pH on morphology and optical properties of synthesized products are also studied. It was found that reagent concentration and temperature both played important role in change in morphology of synthesized product. The crystal structure studies of synthesized products were carried out by powder X‐ray diffraction technique which reveals the formation of Acanthite monoclinic Ag2S crystal structure and SAD was taken for only two samples whose analysis using XRD was difficult. The optical properties and quantum confinement effect of the products were confirmed by means of spectroscopic measurements. Morphologies obtained were characterized by SEM. Further the functionality and effectiveness of stabilization process were established by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.

Facile Synthesis of Spherical Flake-shaped CuO Nanostructure and Its Characterization towards Solar Cell Application

The aim of this work is to synthesis CuO nanoparticles and investigates their eminent properties to identify their diverse application capability in the field of solar cells. In this work, CuO nanoparticles were synthesized by precipitation method using Copper (II) nitrate and Copper (II) chloride. Surface effects due to defects, structural properties related through lattice parameter, and crystallite sizes of nanoparticles have been identified from XRD. The crystal plane and reflection peak position was calculated using Bragg’s law. It showed that CuO nanoparticles have a monoclinic structure, and that the average crystallite size of CuO nanoparticles was 28.82 nm. n-type semiconductor behavior had a direct band of Eg = 1.465(2) eV, analyzed from optical studies by DRS. The band gap of the sample was determined from the reflectance spectra using Kubelka-Munk (K-M) function. Elements present were found through absorption peak of FTIR. The blue shifts observed in FTIR spectra in CuO nanoparticles were compared with that of bulk CuO, and absorption band agreed with XRD results. Morphological studies revealed the formation of spherical flake-shaped formation of CuO. It had a higher surface area and was well-suited to solar cell applications. Doped Cage-like Structure of Cd[sub 9]S[sub 9]

The smallest stable stoichiometric cage‐like structure Cd9S9 of CdnSn is found to have enough space to dope atom(s) endohedrally. Theoretical investigations of mono‐doped and bi‐doped Cd9S9 with 3d transition metal atoms indicate that endohedral bi‐doped cage is not stable however bi‐doped cage with one atom at the endohedral site and other substituting a Cd atom retains the original geometry. Magnetic moment of the transition metal atom is generally retained in the cagelike structure. Endohedral mono‐doped Co cage is found to be the best probable candidate for self‐assembly.

Structural Characterization Of CdSe and ZnSe Nanostructures

Chemically bath deposited CdSe and ZnSe powder possesses mixed type structures whereas it is hexagonal wurtzite type in thin film form. SEM images of CdSe symmetrically exhibit the growth of spherical, rod and the rose(flower) type microstructures. ZnSe shows fine grain structures. The growth of microstructures in these selenides according to the growth direction along c‐axis of hexagonal wurtzite crystal. Photoluminescence shows strong blue luminescence at 414 and 437 nm in CdSe nanoparticles. ZnSe shows strong PL at 650 nm that is attributed to the strong d‐native traps. The blue shifted band gap luminescence at 392 nm shows the quantum confinement in ZnSe nanoparticles.

Growth and Optical Properties of Chemical Bath Deposited Cd[sub 0.7]Zn[sub 0.3]S Nanoparticles

In the present work thin films of Cd0.7Zn0.3S ternary compound have been deposited onto glass substrates by chemical bath deposition method at 300 °K (room temperature). The structural morphology of the synthesized compound was studied using XRD, TEM as well as SEM techniques. XRD shows the prepared CdZnS are polycrystalline having wurtzite type structure. TEM and images exhibit a uniform distribution of hexagonal shaped particles. EDS confirms the formation of ternary semiconductor from the compositional analysis. The particle size measured from TEM & SEM shows the agglomeration of nanoparticles with a larger particle 45–65 nm. UV‐VIS measurement shows prominent absorption peak at 474 nm along with 734 nm The Photoluminescence exhibit the band edge emission at 490 nm along with other blue‐green emissions

Influence Of SiO[sub 2] Filler Content on Mechanical and Electrical Resistivity Behavior of Epoxy Nanocomposites

Nano‐sized SiO2 particles were filled with epoxy matrix to prepare the nanocomposites. Nanocomposites were prepared by sol‐gel technique. The effects of SiO2 content between 5–20 wt% were investigated, based on densification, microstructure, mechanical and electrical properties. The SiO2‐Epoxy nanocomposites by the SiO2 content below 10 wt% exhibited excellent relative density over 3.8% with well dispersed SiO2. However, the SiO2‐Epoxy nanocomposites containing SiO2 of 15 wt% and above possessed a relative density of 21.5%, accompanying SiO2 agglomerated and many pores located inside the agglomerates. The tensile strength gradually increased with the increase of SiO2 content up to 10 wt% and further increase of SiO2 decreased the tensile strength. However, the tensile modulus increased with increase in SiO2 content. SiO2 filler in epoxy influenced strongly the volume and surface resistivity. On the other hand, in samples containing more than 10 wt% of SiO2 in epoxy electrical volume resistivity showed a minimum. This decrease may be attributed to SiO2 particles have large amount of ‐OH impurities might have been adhered into the epoxy matrix. Further, the influence of sea water effect on volume resistivity of nanocomposites was discussed

Microwave Treated Rapid Hydrothermal Synthesis Of Zno Nano-Flakes Array: The Effect Of Citric Acid As Capping Agent

Microwave assisted hydrothermal synthesis of ZnO nanostructures with improved surface area by the addition of Citric Acid (CA) as a metal capping agent is reported. Citric acid is added to the mother precursor in three different concentrations for the preparation of ZnO nanostructure. The influence of the citric acid as a capping agent has been studied both in the preparation of ZnO nanopowders and in the ordered array formation on the precoated ZnO seed layer over glass substrates. The addition of this capping agent has shown up clearly in the morphology of the nanostructures. The X‐ray diffraction patterns has shown a diminished crystallinity and a increased full width half maximum (FWHM) in the preferred oriented diffraction peak. The peak broadening is an indication of the reduced crystallite size. This cause of the inhibition in growth is realized to be the effect of capping action of citric acid. The optical property of the ZnO nanostructure was characterized by UV‐vis‐NIR spectroscopy.

ZnS∕CdS Core∕Shell Nanostructures For Light Emission in Blue Region

Highly luminescent and monochromatic ZnS/CdS core/shell quantum dots were synthesized successfully via chemical route for application in blue & UV spectral range. We tried to explore use of inverted core‐shell structure employing wide band gap core & narrow band gap shell. In this work the lower band gap shell was expected to serve the dual purpose of passivation of surface states while simultaneously working as a color filter for emitted radiation.

Synthesis of SnO[sub 2] Nanoparticles Using Ultrasonication

The use of ultrasonic energy for chemical synthesis has recently become an interesting and growing area of research. Using this form of energy, we have synthesized nanoparticles of SnO2 (8–30 nm) at room temperature by a sonication assisted precipitation technique. In order to understand the effect of ultrasonic energy on particle size and their distribution, the precipitation time was varied during the preparation. A sonication time of 3 h was found to be optimum to produce SnO2 nanoparticles having size below 10 nm. We found that a gradual increase of the sonication time gradually decreases the particle size with interesting morphology and increased surface area. The butane sensing properties of the synthesized powders exhibited a direct influence of the sonication time on the sensing properties. A 3 h sonicated sample, exhibited a maximum response of around 98.88% towards 5000 ppm butane at 450 °C with a fast recovery time.
