The defects and morphologic changes of periodontal bone tissues caused by periodontitis affect the outcomes of periodontal treatment to a large extent. The influences of initial periodontal therapy on the regeneration of bone tissue are very limited. In clinical practice, periodontal osseous surgery has been widely used due to its efficacy, and becomes the focus in clinical research.
Objective To compare the effect of Er∶ YAG laser versus airturbine on caries in children. Methods In 75 children with 2maxillary milk molars caries with the same name,Er∶YAG laser was used for removing caries, preparing cavity, and filling treatment for caries(laser group),and caries on the opposite side received airturbine treatment(airturbine group). The anesthesia, pain feeling and comfort degree were compared between two groups. Results In laser group,non-anesthesia rate(94.7%),painless feeling rate(72.0%)and comfort degree(77.3%)were significantly higher than those in airturbine group(14.7%,10.7%,10.7%)(P0.05).Conclusion Er∶YAG laser causes less pain than airturbine for caries in children so it is more acceptable.
Objective To observe the effectiveness of vital pulpotomy with mineral trioxide aggregate(MTA) and glutaraldehyde during the treatment of primary teeth. Methods 80 deciduous molars with deep caries from 4-8 year-old children were selected. All selected teeth were randomly divided into control group(using glutaraldehyde pulpotomy) and experimental group(using MTA pulpotomy).Patients were recalled for clinical and radiographic evaluation in 6-month,one-year and two-years periods. Results 6 months after the treatment, the rates of success in both groups were close, but after one year and two years, the rate of success in experimental group was higher than that in control group. There was statistically significant difference in the success rate of teeth treated with MTA pulpotomy in comparison to those treated with glutaraldehyde pulpotomy﹙P0.05﹚.Conclusions The clinical effectiveness of vital pulpotomy in primary teeth with MTA is better than that with glutaraldehyde.
Objective To evaluate the treatment effects of activator on anterior crossbite. Methods 8 patients with functional Class Ⅲ malocclusion were treated with activator. The treatment effects were assessed. Results The average therapic period to correct anterior crossbite was 3.5 months. The skeletal profile was improved. Conclusion It is desirable to treat functional Class Ⅲ malocclusion with activator.
Periodontal ligament stem cell which can differentiate into osteoblasts, cementoblast-like cells, adipo-cytes, and collagen-forming cells is a new kind of seeds cell in periodontal tissue regeneration. Here we reported the research progress of periodontal ligament stem cells in biological characteristic, multi-directional differentiation, transplantation and its potential application in periodontal tissue regeneration.
