Since the global pandemic of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), online health information-seeking behaviors have notably increased. Cyberchondria can be a vulnerability factor for the worsening of anxiety-depressive symptoms and quality of life. The current study aims to understand the predictive effect of cyberchondria on health anxiety, anxiety, depression and quality of life considering the mediating effect of obsessive-compulsive symptoms and Internet addiction and the moderating effect of COVID anxiety. 572 Italian participants (66% female; Mean age = 34; SD = 15) took part in a cross-sectional online survey involving CSS-12, MOCQ-R, IAT, SHAI, HADS, WHOQoL-BREF and CAS. Mediation and moderation analyses were conducted. Obsessive-compulsive symptoms and Internet addiction were found to partially mediate the cyberchondria-health anxiety and the cyberchondria-anxiety links and to totally mediate the cyberchondria-depression and the cyberchondria-quality of life links. COVID anxiety was found to moderate the relationship between cyberchondria and anxiety. The findings suggest that compulsivity may have a key role in the explanation of the underlying mechanisms of cyberchondria. Healthcare practitioners should provide additional support for individuals with cyberchondria. As such, cyberchondria is a contributing factor to the exacerbation of anxiety-depressive disorders and may impact on the quality of life.
Background: Relapse Prevention (RP) is a cognitive-behavioral approach that aims to identify situations at high risk of relapse and to support patients with alcohol use disorders (AUDs) in developing coping strategies for the maintenance of desired behavioral changes. Based on this framework, the present study aims to assess and validate the psychometric properties of the MANEMOS, a 24-item inventory of alcohol relapse triggering situations. Methods: The internal consistency and factor structure of the MANEMOS were analyzed in a sample of 313 (27.7% women) in-patients and out-patients, attending alcohol treatment programs in Italian addiction treatment facilities. Results: The results support the internal reliability and validity of the measure. A confirmative factor analysis has revealed the existence of eight distinct dimensions measuring relapse risk situations: namely, Pleasant emotions, Unpleasant emotions, Craving, Conflicts with others, Occasions, Social Pressure, Personal Control, and Physical Discomfort. The patients’ assessment of the riskiness of the situation showed some significant differences depending on gender and on type of treatment received. Conclusions: The findings indicate that MANEMOS is a valid measure for identifying and reflecting on patients’ high relapse-risk situations. This easy and flexible assessment measure may have important implications for prevention and clinical intervention.
The main aim of this study is to improve our knowledge on binge drinking behavior in adolescents. In particular, we tested a model of predictors of binge drinking focusing on boredom proneness; we also examined the predictive and mediating role of drinking expectancies on binge drinking.A questionnaire designed to assess current drinking behavior, such as binge drinking, drinking expectancies and boredom proneness, was administered to 721 Italian adolescents (61% females) aged between 13 and 19 years (M = 15.98, SD = 1.61).Structural equation modeling confirmed the evidence on drinking expectancies as predicted by boredom proneness and as predictive of adolescents' binge drinking. Interestingly, disinhibition and relief from pain seem to play a more important mediating role between boredom and alcohol outcome. Conversely, no mediation was found for interpersonal and social confidence expectancies on binge drinking. In general, the results suggest that preventative interventions on alcohol misuse should focus on personality traits and underlying drinking expectancies.

Introduction: In the field of dependence, there have been few studies on populations of "normal" women.Aims: To quantify the prevalence of problematic consumption of legal and illegal psychoactive substances, pathological gambling and compulsive buying in a sample of 433 Italian women aged between 30 and 50 years. Methods: Selection per quota in various shopping malls in Tuscany and Emilia Romagna. Results: About 13.9% have risk-level alcohol consumption, 9.2% have a medium–high level of tobacco addiction, 7.2% tested positive for compulsive shopping, 1.6% have cannabis dependence and 0.5% are pathological gamblers. Multivariate analysis reveals a relationship between high-risk alcohol consumption and cannabis dependence, and between tobacco addiction and compulsive shopping. Conclusions: The research reveals various consumption profiles and "minor dependences" which appear to be functional to the ways in which this specific target-group faces ordinary everyday life.
