Agriculture is now the primary source of income for nearly 45% of India's population. This makes it important to aid farmers with crop cultivation, protection, and harvesting. Soybean is one of the most widely grown plants in India, especially in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. But soybean crops are prone to diseases like yellow mosaicand anthracnose, amongst others. We propose hybrid deep learning algorithm to detect diseases in soybean plant leavesusing computer vision techniques. In the experimentation, various classification algorithms were compared using accuracy.

A Novel Scalable Apache Spark Based Feature Extraction Approaches for Huge Protein Sequence and their Clustering Performance Analysis

Genome sequencing projects are rapidly increasing the number of high-dimensional protein sequence datasets. Clustering a high-dimensional protein sequence dataset using traditional machine learning approaches poses many challenges. Many different feature extraction methods exist and are widely used. However, extracting features from millions of protein sequences becomes impractical because they are not scalable with current algorithms. Therefore, there is a need for an efficient feature extraction approach that extracts significant features. We have proposed two scalable feature extraction approaches for extracting features from huge protein sequences using Apache Spark, which are termed 60d-SPF (60-dimensional Scalable Protein Feature) and 6d-SCPSF (6-dimensional Scalable Co-occurrence-based Probability-Specific Feature). The proposed 60d-SPF and 6d-SCPSF approaches capture the statistical properties of amino acids to create a fixed-length numeric feature vector that represents each protein sequence in terms of 60-dimensional and 6-dimensional features, respectively. The preprocessed huge protein sequences are used as an input in two clustering algorithms, i.e., Scalable Random Sampling with Iterative Optimization Fuzzy c-Means (SRSIO-FCM) and Scalable Literal Fuzzy C-Means (SLFCM) for clustering. We have conducted extensive experiments on various soybean protein datasets to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed feature extraction methods, 60d-SPF, 6d-SCPSF, and existing feature extraction methods on SRSIO-FCM and SLFCM clustering algorithms. The reported results in terms of the Silhouette index and the Davies-Bouldin index show that the proposed 60d-SPF extraction method on SRSIO-FCM and SLFCM clustering algorithms achieves significantly better results than the proposed 6d-SCPSF and existing feature extraction approaches.

Role of Glycation in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Its Prevention through Nymphaea Species

The dysregulation of glucose metabolism that includes the modification of biomolecules with the help of glycation reaction results in the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). The formation of AGEs may activate receptors for advanced glycation end products which induce intracellular signaling, ultimately enhancing oxidative stress, a well-known contributor to type 2 diabetes mellitus. In addition, AGEs are possible therapeutic targets for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and its complications. This review article highlights the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetic properties of the Nymphaea species, and the screening of such aquatic plants for antiglycation activity may provide a safer alternative to the adverse effects related to glucotoxicity. Since oxidation and glycation are relatively similar to each other, therefore, there is a possibility that the Nymphaea species may also have antiglycating properties because of its powerful antioxidant properties. Herbal products and their derivatives are the preeminent resources showing prominent medicinal properties for most of the chronic diseases including type 2 diabetes mellitus. Among these, the Nymphaea species has also shown elevated activity in scavenging free radicals. This species has a load of phytochemical constituents which shows various therapeutic and nutritional value including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant profiles. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first article highlighting the possibility of an antiglycation value of the Nymphaea species by inhibiting AGEs in mediation of type 2 diabetes mellitus. We hope that in the next few years, the clinical and therapeutic potential may be explored and highlight a better perspective on the Nymphaea species in the inhibition of AGEs and its associated diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Ex vivo study of molecular changes of stained teeth following hydrogen peroxide and peroxymonosulfate treatments

White teeth can give confidence and tend to be associated with a healthier lifestyle in modern society. Therefore, tooth-bleaching strategies have been developed, including the use of hydrogen peroxide. Recently, peroxymonosulfate has been introduced as an alternative bleaching method to hydrogen peroxide. Although both chemicals are oxidizing agents, their effects on the molecular composition of the stained teeth are yet unknown. In this study, the molecular profiles of teeth bleached with hydrogen peroxide and peroxymonosulfate were compared using Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry. Statistical analyses were used to assess the samples. In addition, reference spectral libraries and in silico tools were used to perform metabolite annotation. Overall, principal component analysis showed a strong separation between control and hydrogen peroxide and peroxymonosulfate samples (p < 0.001). The analysis of molecular changes revealed amino acids and dipeptides in stained teeth samples after hydrogen peroxide and peroxymonosulfate treatments. Noteworthy, the two bleaching methods led to distinct molecular profiles. For example, diterpenoids were more prevalent after peroxymonosulfate treatment, while a greater abundance of alkaloids was detected after hydrogen peroxide treatment. Whereas non-bleached samples (controls) showed mainly lipids. Therefore, this study shows how two different tooth-whitening peroxides could affect the molecular profiles of human teeth.

Design and Synthesis of Imidazo/Benzimidazo[1,2-c]quinazoline Derivatives and Evaluation of Their Antimicrobial Activity

A new class of fused quinazolines has been designed and synthesized via copper-catalyzed Ullmann type C–N coupling followed by intramolecular cross-dehydrogenative coupling reaction in moderate to good yields. The synthesized compounds were tested for in vitro antibacterial activity against three Gram negative (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas putida, and Salmonella typhi) and two Gram positive (Bacillus subtilis, and Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria. Among all tested compounds, 8ga, 8gc, and 8gd exhibited promising minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values (4–8 μg/mL) for all bacterial strains tested as compared to the positive control ciprofloxacin. The synthesized compounds were also evaluated for their in vitro antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans and compounds 8ga, 8gc, and 8gd having potential antibacterial activity also showed pronounced antifungal activity (MIC values 8–16 μg/mL) against both strains. The bactericidal assay by propidium iodide and live–dead bacterial cell screening using a mixture of acridine orange/ethidium bromide (AO/Et·Br) showed considerable changes in the bacterial cell membrane, which might be the cause or consequence of cell death. Moreover, the hemolytic activity for most potent compounds (8ga, 8gc, and 8gd) showed their safety profile toward human blood cells.

A phenyliodine(III) diacetate (PIDA)-mediated, highly efficient and tandem approach for the synthesis of aryldiazenylisoxazolo(isothiazolo)arenes from simple 2-amino-N′-arylbenzohydrazides has been developed. The reaction proceeds via formation of (E)-(2-aminoaryl)(aryldiazenyl)methanone as the key intermediate, followed by intramolecular oxidative O–N/S–N bond formation in one pot at room temperature. The quiet different reactivity of the substrate is due to the formation of a diazo intermediate which encounters a nucleophilic attack by carbonyl oxygen on the electrophilic amine to produce isoxazole products, as compared to the previous reportsa,b,4 in which an N-acylnitrenium ion intermediate is intramolecularly trapped by an amine group.
