In situ high temperature magnetic force microscope analysis of thermal stability in the granular-type FePt–MgO double-layered perpendicular recording media

Thermal stability of written bits with different linear densities on granular-type FePt–MgO double-layered perpendicular magnetic recording media has been investigated by magnetic force microscope (MFM) technique, equipped with an in situ heating system up to 200°C. Within the measurement time scale (∼6h), there is no observable degradation in 50- and 100-kfci bits even at 200°C indicating good thermal stability of FePt media, while in 10-kfci bits some reversed domains are found at high temperatures in the center region of the bits due to the presence of strong demagnetizing field. The average MFM signal extracted from MFM images at high temperature is interpreted based on the temperature-dependent magnetic anisotropy (Ku) behavior of the FePt media.

Aquagenic pruritus associated with the idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome

Patients with the idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) may develop associated skin disorders. We describe a patient who had xerosis since birth, but who first developed symptoms of aquagenic pruritus soon after he presented with HES. Photochemotherapy with psoralen and UVA treatment reduced his peripheral blood eosinophil count. The good response to treatment suggests that there was a close relationship between the dermatosis and the blood disorder.

Emission of Nitrogen Species and Biomass Burned Comparison Over India and Indo-Gangetic Plain

Abstract: In this study, we used a data from MODIS burned area Data (MCD64A1) which is downloaded from FileZilla. The FileZilla Client and FileZilla Server are separate components of the open-source, cross-platform FTP application FileZilla. Here we can download MODIS burned data file. We download MODIS burned file in GeoTIFF image file format so that we can easily extract data for desire area. This MODIS burned data is extracted with the help of ArcMap. After the extraction of data for desire study area and we get number of pixels burned in study area. To get burned area we multiply the number of pixels to the area of pixels. We found that In India without IGP pre-monsoon burned area higher than the post-monsoon burned area and in IGP post-monsoon burned area is higher than the pre-monsoon burned area. We also conclude that in year 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020 IGP post-monsoon burned area 23903960538 m2 , 21892394111 m2 , 20998770054 m2 and 20348568933 m2 respectfully has highest compare to other area and month for that year and in year 2017 India without IGP per-monsoon burned area 22453082565 m2 is higher compare to other area and month. In this study, we also calculate nitrogen emission and found that emission of nitrogen species in IGP region post-monsoon has the highest as compare to emission of nitrogen species in IGP region pre-monsoon as well as emission of nitrogen species in India without IGP region.

CFD-based operational thermal efficiency improvement of a production data center

Effective cooling of data centers presents a dual challenge: increased cooling power to meet the ever increasing device heat loads, and the need for energy efficient cooling. Detailed analysis of the thermal and flow conditions within a data center are necessary for obtaining optimal design and operational parameters. This paper describes the application of a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based model in a production data center for improving its operational efficiency. The model used in the present work is based on conjugate heat transfer and fluid flow at data center level. The effect of heat dissipation from racks, and thermal and flow conditions at perforated tiles are bought into the model through boundary conditions. The model is rigorously validated by comparing simulation results with actual measurements. Extensive parametric studies have been performed, and key issues, resulting in mixing and ineffective cooling, have been identified. Several design and operational changes have been recommended in terms of placement of blanking panels, operation of CRAC units, and operating set-points. These recommendations have been implemented at the data center, resulting in energy savings to the tune of 20%. Further, the model has been used extensively for obtaining guidelines for efficient ramping up of the data center.

Thermal influence indices: Causality metrics for efficient exploration of data center cooling

Cooling is an important issue in data center design and operation. Accurate evaluation of a design or operational parameter choice for cooling is difficult as it requires several runs of computationally intensive Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based models. Therefore there is need for an exploration method that does not incur enormous computation. In addition, the exploration should also provide insights that enable informed decision making. Given these twin goals of reduced computation and improved insights, we present a novel approach to data center cooling exploration. The key idea is to do a local search around the current design/operation of a data center to obtain better design/operation parameters subject to the desired constraints. To do this, all the microscopic information about airflow and temperature in data center available from a single run of CFD computation is converted into macroscopic metrics called influence indices. The influence indices, which characterize the causal relationship between heat sources and sinks, are used to refine the design/operation of the data center either manually or programmatically. New designs are evaluated with further CFD runs to compute new influence indices and the process is repeated to yield improved designs as per the computation budget available. We have carried out design exploration of a realistic data center using this methodology. Specifically, we considered maximization of the heat load in the data center subject to the constraints that: 1) servers are kept at appropriate temperatures and 2) overloading of CRACs is avoided. Our evaluation shows that the use of influence indices cuts down the exploration time by 80 % for a 1500 sq. ft. data center.
