Rapid Color Test Identification System for Screening of Counterfeit Fluoroquinolone

The protocol of rapid identification system consists of three chemical color reactions; two group tests for fluoroquinolone class and a compound specific test each for norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, gatifloxacin, ofloxacin, levofloxacin and sparfloxacin. The group color reactions are based on (a) Oxidizing behavior of quinolone and (b) Fluorine functional groups, both of which are characteristic of fluoroquinolone class. The compound specific color reactions are developed taking into consideration unique chemical behavior of each compound. The proposed chemical color tests have high selectivity⁄specificity, are ideal for screening purpose. The color of each test was defined by two standard color systems namely CIE lab and Munsell color. A suspected counterfeit tablet of any of the above mentioned drugs can be identified within 10‐15 min using this rapid identification system.

SORPTION DYNAMIC FOR REMOVAL OF PHENOL FROM WATER AND WASTE-WATER ONTO BITUMINOUS COAL

In present investigation, Bituminous coal in removing phenol has been studied. The effects of various factors such as particle size, pH, phenol concentration and temperature on sorption are investigated. The removal of phenol increased with decreasing adsorbent particle size, pH and increasing concentration and temperature. The study is followed the pseudo-first-order rate kinetics and is found that the sorption data fit well the Lagergren equation.

Application of Clay Materials for Sorption of Radionuclides from Waste Solutions

The wide application of nuclear resources in various fields has resulted in the production of radioactive waste, which poses a serious threat to lives and the environment. Nuclear waste contains long-lived radionuclides and, due to its mobility in environments, the proper management of generated waste is necessary. To impede the mobility of radionuclides in environments, various materials have been tested as suitable sorbents under different experimental conditions. In this review, we thoroughly discuss some key and recent contributions to the application of natural clays (NCs) and modified/functionalized clays (MCs) for the sorption of various radionuclides in their cationic and anion forms from (simulated) waste solutions under different experimental conditions. More specifically, we discuss the key developments toward the use of natural clays for the efficient sorption of various radioactive contaminates. Later, this review targets the modification/functionalization of natural clays using various organic moieties to improve their removal capacities for various radionuclides/hazardous ions present in waste solutions. Finally, we summarize the major aspects and highlight the key challenges to be addressed in future studies to further enhance the application of clays and clay-based materials for selective and effective removal of various radionuclides from waste solutions.

Role of the humic acid for sorption of radionuclides by synthesized titania

Abstract Present work reports on synthesis, characterization and application of titania powder (anatase) for sorption of 137 Cs (monovalent), 133 Ba (divalent) and 154 Eu (trivalent) radionuclides in the presence and absence of humic acid (Aldrich). In order to obtain a detailed sorption behavior of all the three aforementioned radionuclides, a series of experiments were conducted with respect to effect of pH, humic acid (HA), and concentration of radionuclides. Sorption studies of 137 Cs, 133 Ba and 154 Eu onto synthesized titania have been carried out over a wide range of pH scale varying from 3 to 11 in the presence and absence of Aldrich Humic acid (2 mg/L). Sorption of all the three radionuclides rises sharply with the pH of the suspension with saturation value of ∼ 70%, 80% and 85% respectively for monovalent, bivalent and trivalent radionuclides. Humic acid could not make any influence for sorption of 137 Cs, but significantly altered with respect to 133 Ba and 154 Eu sorption. The sorption data at various concentrations were fitted with Freundlich isotherm model.

Shielding of Photosynthetic Apparatus by Consortia of Bacterial Endophytes in Tomato Plants Suffering From Fusarium Wilt

Fusarium oxysporum is one of the most damaging plant pathogens causing Fusarium wilt in many plants leading to serious economic loss. The fungus colonizes the xylem, which leads to resistance in water flow in the plant thereby affecting the rate of photosynthesis. The present study focuses on the selection of bacterial endophytes isolated from tomato plants and evaluating their potential to antagonize Fusarium oxysporum in tomato in vivo . The results obtained indicated that two endophytic isolates, namely Pseudomonas fluorescens BUMD5 and Bacillus velezensis BUMD9, could act as efficient biocontrol agents (BCAs) as they inhibited the growth of pathogen by 67.2 and 69.1%, respectively, in vitro . Both the isolates were found to produce hydrolytic enzymes chitinase and protease. They also produced siderophore and hydrogen cyanide (HCN). The consortia of both the isolates significantly reduced the infection percentage by about 67% and a 3-fold decrease in disease severity was observed as compared to pathogen control. The treatment of infected plants with these potent isolates was also beneficial in improving the overall photosynthetic performance index (PI). Thus, plants treated with consortia of these isolates exhibited better overall plant growth despite being infected by the pathogen.
