马来酸在离子液体[BMIM]BF4中的电化学还原和原位红外光谱研究

作者自行合成了离子液体[BMIM]BF4,用循环伏安法（CV）、计时电量法（CA）和电化学原位红外反射光谱（in situFTIR）,从分子水平考察了离子液体中马来酸在玻碳（GC）电极上的电化学还原过程。结果表明,[BMIM]BF4中马来酸在GC电极上的还原为不可逆过程,测得扩散系数D=9.62×10^-8cm^2/s;in situFTIRS研究发现,马来酸在离子液体[BMIM]BF4和水溶液中的电还原生成丁二酸的机理不同。在[BMIM]BF4中马来酸还原发生在其中的一个羧基上,即马来酸首先获得一个电子生成阴离子自由基,随后可能获得一个电子生成二价阴离子,或者获得一个电子并在2个H^＋的作用下生成醛类物质和水。

Synergistic Sulfur-Selenium Cathodes for Lithium-Sulfur Batteries

Lithium-sulfur batteries are promising for next-generation energy storage but face challenges such as polysulfideshuttle effect, slow kinetics and lithium dendrite growth. Here we report a two-dimensional defective carbon-based material with sulfur and selenium co-loaded as a synergistic cathode. The cathode exhibits high initial capacity of 1450 mAh/g at 0.1 C and low capacity decay rates of 0.09% and 0.13% for 500 cycles and 300 cycles at 0.5 C and 2 C, respectively. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Density functional theory calculations (DFT) show that there is a strong adsorption effect between sulfur, selenium and the substrate material, which can inhibit the generation of shuttle effects. Our work provides a scalable and viable strategy for long-term lithium storage applications.

Tuning the Shape and Catalytic Activity of Fe Nanocrystals from Rhombic Dodecahedra and Tetragonal Bipyramids to Cubes by Electrochemistry

Fe nanocrystal catalysts were synthesized by electrochemistry. Shape transformations of Fe nanocrystals from rhombic dodecahedra and tetragonal bipyramids, both bounded by {110} facets, to 18-facet polyhedra enclosed by different combinations of {110} and {100} facets and finally to cubes exclusively covered by {100} facets have been achieved. A study of the surface-structure functionality of the Fe nanocrystals toward electroreduction of nitrite revealed that the electrocatalytic activity of the Fe nanocrystals increases as the fraction of {100} facets on the surface of the Fe NCs increases.

Energy Efficiency Enhancement of Ethanol Electrooxidation on Pd–CeO ₂ /C in Passive and Active Polymer Electrolyte‐Membrane Fuel Cells

Abstract Pd nanoparticles have been generated by performing an electroless procedure on a mixed ceria (CeO 2 )/carbon black (Vulcan XC‐72) support. The resulting material, Pd–CeO 2 /C, has been characterized by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM), inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP–AES), and X‐ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. Electrodes coated with Pd–CeO 2 /C have been scrutinized for the oxidation of ethanol in alkaline media in half cells as well as in passive and active direct ethanol fuel cells (DEFCs). Membrane electrode assemblies have been fabricated using Pd–CeO 2 /C anodes, proprietary FeCo cathodes, and Tokuyama anion‐exchange membranes. The monoplanar passive and active DEFCs have been fed with aqueous solutions of 10 wt % ethanol and 2 M KOH, supplying power densities as high as 66 mW cm −2 at 25 °C and 140 mW cm −2 at 80 °C. A comparison with a standard anode electrocatalyst containing Pd nanoparticles (Pd/C) has shown that, at even metal loading and experimental conditions, the energy released by the cells with the Pd–CeO 2 /C electrocatalyst is twice as much as that supplied by the cells with the Pd/C electrocatalyst. A cyclic voltammetry study has shown that the co‐support ceria contributes to the remarkable decrease of the onset oxidation potential of ethanol. It is proposed that ceria promotes the formation at low potentials of species adsorbed on Pd, Pd I ‐OH ads , that are responsible for ethanol oxidation.

Pilot Study on a New Conveyor Bed Magnetization Roasting Process for Efficient Iron Extraction from Low-Grade Siderite

Realizing the large-scale development and utilization of siderite, a difficult iron ore reserve, has great practical significance in ensuring the supply of iron ore resources. Therefore, a new in-house conveyor bed magnetization roasting–dry cooling process was pilot-tested using low-grade siderite from the Daxigou iron ore mine. A two-stage weak magnetic separation method was used for a beneficiation test to investigate the influence of temperature and CO content on the magnetization of siderite. At 600 °C and 800 °C under suspension, iron minerals were converted into magnetite with an effective 3–5 s residence time. Furthermore, at 600 °C and 750 °C, increasing the calcination temperature increased the iron grade and the concentrate recovery rate. However, calcination at temperatures >750 °C resulted in a slight decrease in the iron grade and recovery rate of the concentrate. 61.50% Fe grade and 80.30% concentrate recovery rate were obtained under 750 °C from magnetization roasting. Magnetization roasting in a reducing atmosphere provides mainly magnetite as the roasted ore, and increased CO content can efficiently promote this effect. At 700–780 °C and when the CO content was increased to more than 3 wt.%, the improvement of the roasting effect was very limited. Rapid cooling of the roasted ore using a mixture of circulating exhaust gas and air could prevent considerable oxidation of the magnetic ferrous material. Therefore, the preferred process conditions are 700–780 °C with a CO content range of 1–3%. It provided a concentrate iron grade of 59.27–61.50% and a recovery rate of 78.32–80.30%. The results of this study provide a reference for the development of conveyor bed magnetization technology, process design, and production control.

Two-Dimensional MXenes: Innovative Materials for Efficient Thermal Management and Safety Solutions

MXenes, a class of 2-dimensional transition metal carbides and nitrides, have garnered important attention due to their remarkable electrical and thermal conductivity, high photothermal conversion efficiency, and multifunctionality. This review explores the potential of MXene materials in various thermal applications, including thermal energy storage, heat dissipation in electronic devices, and the mitigation of electromagnetic interference in wearable technologies. Recent advancements in MXene composites, such as MXene/bacterial cellulose aerogel films and MXene/polymer composites, have demonstrated enhanced performance in phase change thermal storage and electromagnetic interference shielding, underscoring their versatility and effectiveness. Although notable progress has been made, challenges remain, including the need for a deeper understanding of photothermal conversion mechanisms, improvements in mechanical properties, exploration of diverse MXene types, and the development of sustainable synthesis methods. This paper discusses these aspects and outlines future research directions, emphasizing the growing importance of MXenes in addressing energy efficiency, health, and safety concerns in modern applications.
