Strong Ir-W Oxide Interaction in IR Supported W-Si Mixed Oxides for Efficient Co-Scr Denitration and Influential Mechanism of Oxygen

Selective catalytic reduction of NOx with CO (CO-SCR) is deemed to be prospective technology instead of NH3-SCR denitration, while poor CO-SCR performance in the presence of excess O2 profoundly hinders its further development. Herein, supported Ir catalysts with abundant active sites (Ir0 and Ir-WO3-x species) were prepared by ultrasonic-assisted impregnation, which achieved above 70% NOx conversion and around 80% N2 selectivity at 250°C in the presence of 5% O2. Also, NOx conversion maintained stable for more than 100 h due to the superior oxidation resistance of Ir-based catalysts that the ratio of Ir0/(Ir0+Ir4+) only decreased by 1% after the reaction. More importantly, these characterizations showed that the highly dispersed Ir and WO3 species had contributed to the strong Ir-WO3 interaction, bringing about more exposed Ir0 and Ir-WO3-x active sites, and enhancing the adsorption and dissociation of NO. Meanwhile, the influential mechanism of O2 on CO-SCR was studied. On the one hand, O2 accelerated the adsorption of NO to generate more NOx-adsorbed species (NO3-, NO2-, NO2, and N2O4), especially for monodentate nitrates. They acted as active intermediates to react with CO to form N2 and CO2, which was beneficial to CO-SCR performance. On the other hand, as the temperature rises, NOx adsorbed species began to desorb in large quantities and the adsorption of CO and O2 was strengthened, promoting CO oxidation with O2, resulting in a rapid decrease in NOx conversion.

Reduction of Humid Vocs Produced in Cooking Procedure Through Adsorption on Mo-Mel Zeolites

Based on the increasing public awareness of the pollution and hazard of cooking oil fume, MEL-type zeolites with different composition, including Si-MEL (all-silicon framework), Al-MEL (Si-Al framework) and Mo-MEL (Si-Mo framework), were synthesized through a self-developed recrystallization methodology and were applied into the reduction of cooking VOCs via adsorption process. Mo species is proved to exist both in the MEL zeolitic framework and MoO3 clusters through XRD, IR, N2 adsorption-desorption, SEM and UV-vis characterization. Water vapor adsorption isotherms and 29Si NMR results indicate Mo-MEL owns superior hydrophobicity because of its high level of atoms coordination and lack of silanols. Toluene-TPD and dynamic adsorption results reveal the enhanced affinity to VOCs molecular on Mo-MEL, superior than Si-MEL and Al-MEL. The Mo-contained sample shows a considerable VOCs capacity of 91.29 mg/g (RH=0%) and 82.75 mg/g (RH-20%), suggesting its application potential for the adsorption and enrich of cooking VOCs, especially in humid condition.

Influence mechanism of different precursors on the adsorption behavior of NOx over Cu²⁺ ion‐exchange ZSM‐5

Abstract BACKGROUND The combined Adsorption‐Nonthermal Plasma Catalytic process (A‐NTP‐C) which is used for decomposition of NOx has become a technical approach of high research value.Many studies have shown that the better the adsorption performance of the catalyst in the A‐NTP‐C process, the higher the conversion of NO. The type of Cu precursors will affect the chemical/physical properties of Cu‐based catalysts, thus influencing the adsorption performance of catalysts. In this study, an ion exchange process was used to prepare Cu/ZSM‐5 catalysts with three Cu precursors, namely copper acetate (AC‐Cu), copper nitrate (N‐Cu) and copper sulfate (S‐Cu). Results Different Cu precursors led to differences in Cu ion exchange capacity of Cu/ZSM‐5; the Cu content of AC‐Cu/ZSM‐5 was the highest. Furthermore, even with the same Cu content as N‐Cu/ZSM‐5 and S‐Cu/ZSM‐5, the AC‐Cu/ZSM‐5 catalyst showed the best adsorption performance. Conclusion X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy results indicated that CuO and isolated tetrahedron‐coordinating Cu(II) were the main forms of Cu species on Cu/ZSM‐5. The results of in situ DRIFTs indicated that NO was oxidized by CuO and the generated NO 2 was adsorbed by H + and isolated Cu (II). The AC‐Cu/ZSM‐5 catalysts had the largest amount of tetrahedron‐coordinating isolated Cu (II) and the strongest H + electrophilic ability, giving it the best NOx adsorption performance. The different precursors had little effect on the ZSM‐5 structure, but did cause differences in pore volume, which might influence the adsorption capacity of NOx to some extent. These conclusions provide new ideas and methods for optimizing the adsorption capacity of Cu/ZSM‐5. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry

Equilibrium and heat of adsorption of phosphine on CaCl₂‐modified molecular sieve

Abstract Adsorption characteristics of the virgin and CaCl 2 ‐immersed molecular sieves at 298 K were investigated to select the adsorbent with high adsorption capacity to phosphine. Adsorption isobars and adsorption isotherms over the phosphine partial pressure and temperature ranged 0 ∼ 1000 Pa and 298 ∼ 343 K were measured. The adsorption equilibrium data for phosphine at various temperatures were fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models and their isosteric heats of adsorption were determined by the Clausius‐Clapeyron equation. It was found the Freundlich was more suitable for description of phosphine adsorption process through calculating average absolute relative error, and the fitted result about Langmuir model showed the heterogeneous characteristics of modified adsorbent. The isosteric heat of adsorption was about 15 kJ/mol, which indicated adsorptive phosphine removal performance may be a dominant of physical adsorption being easy for desorption. The isosteric heat of adsorption decreased with an increase of the surface loading on CaCl 2 /5A, which means that CaCl 2 /5A molecular sieve had an energetically heterogeneous surface. The present study confirmed that the CaCl 2 /5A molecular sieves would be one of the candidates for separation and recycle of phosphine. Environmental Risk Assessment System for Phosphogypsum Tailing Dams

This paper may be of particular interest to the readers as it provides a new environmental risk assessment system for phosphogypsum tailing dams. In this paper, we studied the phosphogypsum tailing dams which include characteristics of the pollution source, environmental risk characteristics and evaluation requirements to identify the applicable environmental risk assessment methods. Two analytical methods, that is, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and fuzzy logic, were used to handle the complexity of the environmental and nonquantitative data. Using our assessment method, different risk factors can be ranked according to their contributions to the environmental risk, thereby allowing the calculation of their relative priorities during decision making. Thus, environmental decision-makers can use this approach to develop alternative management strategies for proposed, ongoing, and completed PG tailing dams.

Reduction of Nmhc in Cooking Oil Fumes Via Adsorption on Mfi: Effect of Zeolitic Framework Composition

The growth of public awareness of hazard from gaseous pollutants emitted by cooking activities spawned the implement of new laws & regulations as well as new technologies for cooking oil fumes (COFs) emission control. Considering the emission characteristics of large air volume and intermittence of COFs, in this work, TS-1 was firstly applied as an efficient adsorbent for enriching the low-concentrated complex humid volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from COFs. In order to illustrate the superiority of Ti-O-Si framework as a COF-VOCs adsorbent, zeolites with the same MFI topology to TS-1 but different framework compositions of Si-O-Al (ZSM-5) and Si-O-Si (S-1) were also investigated for comparison. Related characterizations were performed to reveal the difference among three zeolites. It was found that textural properties, surface silanol density and defect content significantly affect the adsorption site accessibility, water resistance as well as organophilicity of zeolites adsorbents, which plays a decisive role in the adsorption process of COFs. Both TS-1 and S-1 present much stronger water resistance than commercial ZSM-5 due to lacking hydrophilic Si-OH-Al groups (S-1>TS-1>ZSM-5), while TS-1 shows better organophilic property than both S-1 and ZSM-5 (in an order of TS-1>ZSM-5>S-1) due to the physical and electrical interaction between Ti-contained framework and organic molecular. These characteristics jointly make the zeolite with Ti-O-Si framework be a good adsorbent candidate for COF-VOCs elimination.
