A SESQUITERPENE AND OTHER CONSTITUENTS FROM ERIGERON BREVISCAPUS

Abstract Three new Constituent erigesides, A-C, as well as two known compounds, betulabuside A and erigeroside, have been isolated from Erigeron breviscapus . The structures of the new compounds were established on the basis of spectral analysis.

Structurally Diverse and Bioactive Compounds from Plant Resources (TCM)

Chemical studies on a number of plant resources (including TCM) have led to the identification of a big array of structurally interesting and/or bioactive components [1]. A few of the compounds have been selected as lead structures for our drug discovery program, and a number of modified chemical entities with significantly improved activities were also obtained. Biological evaluation showed that some of the compounds exhibited remarkable anticancer (both cytotoxic and antiangiogenesis) and antifungal activities. Several groups of anticancer and antimicrobial analogous showed very clear structure activity relationships. The research also provided good scientific background to understand the function and toxicity of some traditional Chinese medicine.

Phenolic Compounds from Erigeron breviscapus (Compositae)

Five caffeoyl conjugates were isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble fraction of Erigeron breviscapus (Van.) Hand-Mazz for the first time. Along with them, nine other chemical constituents were also identified. One new caffeoyl conjugate, erigoster A (1) with a novel basic skeleton was mainly assigned by the using a combination of two-dimensional NMR techniques.

TRITERPENOIDS OF SCHISANDRA-SPHENANTHERA

From the fruit of Schisandra sphenanthera, we have isolated a new triterpenoid, named schisanol, as well as the four known lignans, wuweizisu A, schisantherin A and D, and (+)-gomisins K3. The structure of schisanol was determined on the basis of spectral data.

Chemical Constituents of Pomatosace filicula

A new triterpenoid saponin, namely pomatoside A (3) 13β, 28-epoxy-16-oleananone-3-O-[α- L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→6)-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-O-β-D- glucopyranosyl-(1→2)]-β-D-glucopyranoside, together with twelve known compounds, was isolated for the first time from Pomatosace filicula Maxim., a monotypic endemic plant, grown in the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau of China. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses and chemical methods, especially 2D-NMR.

A novel compound from Ceratostigma minus

A novel compound, plumbocatechin A 1, was isolated from the whole plant of Ceratostigma minus. The structural elucidation of 1 was mainly achieved by 2D-NMR techniques.
