Synovium-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells Encapsulated in a Novel Injectable Gel can Repair Osteochondral Defects in a Rabbit Model

We developed a novel injectable type I collagen/hyaluronic acid/fibrinogen (COL/HA/FG) composite gel that encapsulated synovium-derived mesenchymal stem cells (SDSCs) for the repair of damaged articular cartilage. We first analyzed the suitability of the composite gel as a three-dimensional injectable cell carrier in vitro. In an in vivo rabbit model, the COL/HA/FG composite gel displayed the potential to regenerate and repair osteochondral defects in the knee. Culture of the SDSCs encapsulated COL/HA/FG composite gel in a chondrogenic medium resulted in high viability of the SDSCs and high expressions of type II collagen, aggrecan, and sox 9 mRNA. Moreover, glycosaminoglycans and type II collagen were accumulated within the extracellular matrix. In the animal model, the SDSCs encapsulated COL/HA/FG composite gel produced a hyaline-like cartilage construct. Twenty-four weeks after transplantation, the defects had been repaired with hyaline cartilage-like tissue that was densely stained by safranin-O and immunostained by a type II collagen antibody. This data suggest that the SDSC-encapsulated COL/HA/FG composite gel can be a good therapeutic candidate/strategy for repairing of damaged articular cartilage.

The superlattice crystals–mimic, flexible/functional ceramic membrane is presented as a new ceramic-driven material/architecture opportunity for next-generation high-performance battery separators. The structural uniqueness/Mn2+-chelating ability of the ceramic membrane (comprising the close-packed, thiol groups–containing silica particles spatially besieged by the polyvinylpyrrolidone/polyacrylonitrile nanofiber skeleton) enables unprecedented improvement in the membrane properties and, more notably, the high-temperature cyclability far beyond those accessible with conventional polymeric separators. The V_FB Modulation Effect of ALD Grown Al₂O₃, SrO, La₂O₃ Capping Layers with HfO₂ Gate Dielectrics

The effect of atomic layer deposited Al2O3, SrO, and La2O3 capping layers with HfO2 gate dielectrics were examined ffor flat band voltage (VFB) modulation. Al2O3 capping layers cause a VFB shift into the positive voltage direction, while SrO and La2O3 capping layers cause a shift into the negative voltage direction. The bottom capping layer, which positions between the Si substrate and the HfO2 dielectric was more effective in modulating the VFB compared to the top capping layer. The insulating properties of the gate dielectric stacks with different capping layers were also examined. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis verified that top capping layers did not generally diffuse to the interface between the Si substrate and the HfO2 dielectrics, which supports the result that bottom capping layers are more effective in modulating the VFB.

Effect of annealing at room temperature on the surface resistivity of elastomer/multiwalled carbon nanotube nanocomposites

In this study, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM) were melt‐mixed with multi walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT), respectively. The change in the surface resistivity of the nanocomposites during annealing at room temperature was examined. The surface resistivity of TPU/MWCNT nanocomposites with 3 and 5 phr MWCNT and uncrosslinked EPDM/MWCNT nanocomposites with 4 and 6 phr MWCNT significantly increases with increasing annealing time at room temperature. To delay the increase of surface resistivity during annealing at room temperature, silica was added to the TPU/MWCNT and EPDM/MWCNT nanocomposites. The rate of increase in the surface resistivity during annealing at room temperature was much slower with addition of silica to the nanocomposites. POLYM. The Bias Temperature Instability Characteristics of In Situ Nitrogen Incorporated ZrO[sub x]N[sub y] Gate Dielectrics

The dielectric properties and bias temperature instability characteristics of in situ nitrogen incorporated gate dielectrics were compared with those of , , and . showed a much smaller capacitance equivalent oxide thickness (1.43 nm) than (2.13 nm) and exhibited a turn-around effect under a positive gate stress bias in n-type metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor, which is consistent with . However, compared to , showed a significantly lower initial shift under a positive gate stress bias due to the lower number of shallow bulk traps related to oxygen vacancies.
