Multi-target tracking scheme using a track management table for automotive radar systems

In this paper, a multiple target tracking scheme for automotive radars is presented. First, a track table for efficient track management is proposed; then, a track management function is designed using a state machine. The proposed scheme can initiate, confirm, and delete all tracks of multiple targets. Moreover, it can determine whether the detected target is a real target or a ghost track, and a terminated track or a sudden missing track. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed tracking scheme is processed normally.

Design and Implementation of 24 GHz Multichannel FMCW Surveillance Radar with a Software-Reconfigurable Baseband

We designed and developed a 24 GHz surveillance FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar with a software-reconfigurable baseband. The developed radar system consists of transceiver, two selectable transmit antennas, eight parallel receive antennas, and a back-end module for data logging and to control the transceiver. The architecture of the developed radar system can support various waveforms, gain control of receive amplifiers, and allow the selection of two transmit antennas. To do this, we implemented the transceiver using a frequency synthesizer device and a two-step VGA (Variable Gain Amplifier) along with switch-controlled transmit antennas. To support high speed implementation features along with good flexibility, we developed a back-end module based on a FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) with a parallel architecture for the real-time data logging of the beat signals received from a multichannel 24 GHz transceiver. To verify the feasibility of the developed radar system, signal processing algorithms were implemented on a host PC. All measurements were carried out in an anechoic chamber to extract a 3D range-Doppler-angle map and target detections. We expect that the developed software-reconfigurable radar system will be useful in various surveillance applications.

Development of Human Detection Algorithm for Automotive Radar

For an automotive surveillance radar system, fast-chirp train based FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar is a very effective method, because clutter and moving targets are easily separated in a 2D range-velocity map. However, pedestrians with low echo signals may be masked by strong clutter in actual field. To address this problem, we proposed in the previous work a clutter cancellation and moving target indication algorithm using the coherent phase method. In the present paper, we initially composed the test set-up using a 24 GHz FMCW transceiver and a real-time data logging board in order to verify this algorithm. Next, we created two indoor test environments consisting of moving human and stationary targets. It was found that pedestrians and strong clutter could be effectively separated when the proposed method is used. We also designed and implemented these algorithms in FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) in order to analyze the hardware and time complexities. The results demonstrated that the complexity overhead was nearly zero compared to when the typical method was used.

In this paper, we propose a passenger monitoring scheme using a 60GHz FMCW radar for in-cabin applications. Based on the 2D images using cloud point, we employed a 2D deep learning method. We found an average recognition rate at 96 %, which was one to five occupants in a vehicle.

Two-Step Adaptive Target Detection Scheme Using Beam-Steering FMCW Radar Sensors

This letter proposes a two-stage adaptive target detection approach using a beam-steered frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar sensor. In the first step, coarse estimation was performed using multiple sharped beams, where the presence of a target was determined using only a portion of the sampled beat signals. In the second step, a high-resolution range-Doppler (RD) map was generated using the entire information about the beat signal pertaining to the transmitted beams estimated to contain the target. Angle estimation was accomplished through digital beamforming based on the enhanced RD map. Furthermore, to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, high-resolution target detection experiments were conducted using a 24-GHz FMCW radar, while complexity reduction was evaluated in terms of the required memory size.

Design and Verification for PCI Express Controller

In this paper, we design a PCI Express controller for Endpoint. The controller supports full functionality of transaction layer and data link layer of PCI Express. We also propose an efficient buffer management scheme to obey replay mechanism. We employ 80C51 to effectively manage designed functional blocks and implement real-time OS, MicroC/OS II on 80C5I. We also code software under real time environment. This coded software fully covers the PCI Express protocols; supporting the replay mechanism, checking and generating error message, processing TLP acknowledgment, and management for exchanging flow control. For verification, we build a test bench including functional models of host bridge, local master, local slave, and protocol monitor. We also define the instructions to easily generate situations that it occurs in actual operation. We propose an effective verification to compliance and corner case testing using reference model, random generator, and compare engine. This verification environment is excellent to find error which it not detected by general test vector.

본 논문에서는 차량용 FMCW(Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) 레이더의 도플러 주파수와 아날로그-디지털 변환기 비트 수에 따른 탐지 성능 분석 및 신호처리부 개발을 진행하고자 한다. 성능 평가를 위한 FMCW 레이더의 시스템 모델은 송신부와 수신부로 구성되어 있으며 채널은 가우시안 잡음 환경을 사용한다. 이론과 시뮬레이션을 통해서 시스템 모델을 검증한다. 수신부에서는 수신 신호와 기준 신호사이의 부정합으로 인한 주파수 오차가 발생하게 된다. 75cm의 분해능를 갖는 FMCW 레이더에서 도플러 주파수가 약 38KHz이하인 경우 탐지 성능의 열화가 발생하지 않음을 알 수 있다. 아날로그-디지털 변환기 비트에 따른 탐지 성능은 6비트가 최소의 비트로 결정될 수 있음을 알 수 있다. 그리고 FPGA를 이용하여 디지털 송신 파형 발생기를 위한 집적 디지털 신디사이저(Direct Digital Synthesis) 칩을 기반한 FMCW 레이더 신호처리부를 설계 및 구현을 진행한다. This paper analyzes the detection probability of FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar based on Doppler frequency and analog-digital converter bit and designs and implements signal processing part of FMCW radar. For performance evaluation, the FMCW radar system consists of a transmitted part and a received part and uses AWGN channel. The system model is verified through analysis and simulation. Frequency offset occurs in the received part caused by the mismatching between the received signal and the reference signal. In case of Doppler frequency less than about 38KHz, performance degradation of detection does not occur in FMCW radar with 75cm resolution The analog-digital converter needs at least 6 bit in order not to degrade the detection probability. And, we design and implement digital signal processing part based on DDS chip of digital transmitted signal generator for FMCW radar.
