The Effect of Temperature on Photovoltaic Power Generation

As the world increasingly embraces renewable energy, more attention is being given to factors that affect their performance. Solar photovoltaic is a leading source of renewable energy, making it crucial to understand which factors have the greatest impact on its parameters. Temperature is a significant aspect of the study of solar cells. This study conducts a simulation of the performance of a solar cell on PC1D software at three different temperatures within a controlled environment. The parameters were modeled on a 200 cm ² silicon solar cell. The rise of 5 °C decreases the power output by 2% while the increase of 20°C decreased the power output by 10.4%.

Dynamics of rotating paramagnetic particles simulated by lattice Boltzmann and particle dynamics methods

Novel biochemical sensors consisting of rotating chains of microscale paramagnetic particles have been proposed that would enable convenient, sensitive analyte detection. Predicting the dynamics of these particles is required to optimise their design. The results of lattice Boltzmann (LB) and particle dynamics (PD) simulations are reported, where the LB approach provides a verified solution of the complete Navier-Stokes equations, including the hydrodynamic interactions among the particles. On the other hand, the simpler PD approach neglects hydrodynamic interactions, and does not compute the fluid motion. It is shown that macroscopic properties, like the number of aggregated particles, depend only on the drag force and not on the total hydrodynamic force, making PD simulations yield reasonably accurate predictions. Relatively good agreement between the LB and PD simulations, and qualitative agreement with experimental data, are found for the number of aggregated particles as a function of the Mason number. The drag force on a rotating cylinder is significantly different from that on particle chains calculated from both simulations, demonstrating the different dynamics between the two cases. For microscopic quantities like the detailed force distributions on each particle, the complete Navier-Stokes solution, here represented by the LB simulation, is required.

Simulation of Magneto-Rheological Fluids Using Lattice Boltzmann Method

Lattice Boltzmann (LB) simulations of Magneto-rheological fluids under a rotating magnetic field are presented in this paper. The LB method gives a complete solution of Navier-Stokes equation based on the Boltzmann transport equation. A relatively good agreement of normalized number of aggregated particles in experiments and simulations is found. Results pertaining to variation of chain length vs. Mason number are also shown. A complete analysis and comparison of forces on the particles found from LB simulations and from simple Particle dynamics (PD) type approach is also shown. Another aim of this study was to determine under what conditions do we need to solve the complete Navier-Stokes equations and under what conditions a simplistic but very fast simulation method like particle dynamics will work for Magneto-rheological fluids.

Generation of High-Resolution 12-Sided Voltage Space Vector Structure Using Low-Voltage Stacked and Cascaded Basic Inverter Cells

This paper proposes generation of a 15-level (14 concentric) dodecagonal voltage space vector structure (DVSVS) for a star connected induction motor drive. The proposed multilevel DVSVS is obtained by cascading two inverters, namely a primary and secondary inverter. The primary inverter is a five-level (5L) structure formed by stacking two three-level flying capacitors with individual reduced dc sources and the secondary inverter is also a 5L structure formed by cascading two capacitor-fed cascaded H-bridges (CHB). The active power is supplied by the primary inverter, while the secondary inverter acts as switched capacitor harmonics filter, and capacitors in the secondary inverter are balanced naturally irrespective of load power factor for entire modulation index. The high-voltage dc supply fed primary inverter is operated in quasi-square wave mode, while the high frequency switching is applied to low voltage CHBs, thus, reducing the overall switching loss. The proposed scheme gives the advantages of both DVSVS and multilevel structure, thus, making it one of the solutions for battery or stacked dc-fed applications. The paper also presents the experimental results as well as comparison study with the existing topologies to support the advantages of proposed scheme.

Simulation of a Dubai based 200 KW power plant using PVsyst Software

With the exhaustion of fossil fuels, their dreadful effect on the environment and their soaring prices, renewable forms of energy like solar and wind power have emerged rapidly, as clean and sustainable sources of generating electricity. This paper studies the viability of deploying a 200 kWp on-grid monocrystalline silicon solar plant, by making use of PVsyst software for Dubai international academic city, Dubai. The system was designed to have 22 modules in series with 32 strings in parallel. And the total number of modules is computed as 704. The reports of the simulation were examined to determine the total production of energy and specific energy production which was found to be 352.6 MWh/year and 1757 kWh/kWp/year respectively. The annual performance ratio of the system was calculated as 81.67 %. Lastly, by identifying the main source of losses, the detailed loss for the entire year is estimated and represented by an arrow loss diagram.
