Generation of homogeneous gas-discharge beam-plasma formations in an extended hollow cathode of high current glow discharge

The regularities of the generation of gas-discharge beam-plasma formations formed in a high-current non-self-sustained glow discharge at low (≈ 1 Pa) pressure in an extended, 1.2 m long, hollow cathode with a volume of 0.34 m3 with a length-to-diameter ratio of 2: 1 were investigated. It is shown that in a system with one electron source providing injection of electrons into the hollow cathode of a glow discharge, a sharp nonuniformity (≈ 40%) of the nitrogen plasma concentration distribution is observed. In an extended hollow cathode, the problem of inhomogeneity of the plasma concentration distribution is solved by using two sources of electrons that provides injection of electrons from the auxiliary arc plasma into the hollow cathode of the glow discharge. The use of two sources of electrons makes it possible to form beam-plasma formations with an inhomogeneity of no more than 18%. A source of beam-plasma formations based on a non-self-sustained glow discharge with an extended hollow cathode was used for ion-plasma treatment of Cr12MoV die steel products.

Триботехнические и физико-механические свойства штамповой стали, подвергнутой комбинированной ионно-плазменной обработке

В работе представлены результаты исследования триботехнических и физико-механических свойств штамповой стали Х12МФ, подвергнутой комбинированной ионно-плазменной обработке, включающей в себя ионно-плазменное азотирование и вакуумно-дуговое напыление на азотированный подслой покрытий системы (Ti, Cr)N. Азотирование проводилось в двух режимах, при которых отсутствовал «белый» нитридный слой и формировался. Нитридный слой был толщиной 5–7 мкм, а толщина диффузионного слоя около 55–70 мкм. Было показано, что комбинированная обработка позволяет существенно снизить коэффициент трения и параметра износа, а также приводит увеличению микротвердости.

Effect of the mesh emission electrode shape on the distribution of the plasma density generated in the working chamber

The research of the influence of the shape of emission mesh electrode on the distribution of the plasma density generated in the hollow cathode of low-pressure glow discharge was implemented. Radial and azimuthal distributions of the ion current density to the probe were measured for six shapes of the mesh emission electrode. For each shape of the emission electrode the non-uniformity factor of the ion current density distribution was calculated. These studies allow to optimize the electrode system to generate a high uniformity plasma (±25%).

The multiarc plasma cathode electron source

The electron source with the plasma cathode on the basis of the discharge system with the six arc plasma generators working on the common cylindrical hollow anode with a diameter of 200 mm and 300 mm long was constructed. For synchronous operation of the plasma generators the hollow anode is filled with dense low-temperature plasma. The plasma emissive boundary with a diameter of 150 mm is stabilized by a small-structure metal grid. The arc current of each plasma generator is (100-300) A with a pulse duration 150 us. The electron extraction from plasma and acceleration of them is carried out under the action of direct voltage (20-50) kV, applied between the plasma cathode and grounded drift tunnel with inner diameter of 160 mm and 700 mm long. In pilot experiments the electron beam with a common current up to 1000 A and pulse duration 150 us was obtained. The beam with such parameters will be used in research works and technological applications.

Study of the Physical and Mechanical Properties of Coatings Obtained by Vacuum-Arc Spraying of Ti–B–Si–Ni Cathodes Manufactured Using Self-Propagent High-Temperature Synthesis and Pressing

The article presents the results of a study of vacuum-arc coatings obtained by sputtering Ti–B–Si–Ni cathodes, manufactured by the method of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis with simultaneous pressing. The techniques for manufacturing cathodes of the indicated composition were characterized; the modernized NNV 6.6-I1 device, the conditions and modes of coating deposition in an argon atmosphere and in a nitrogen + argon gas mixture in a ratio of 90/10 were described. To study the physical and mechanical properties of the resulting coatings, the hardness was measured at different loads on the indenter; the strength of adhesion to the base was assessed by the Rockwell method; the elemental composition of the cathodes and the (Ti–B–Si–Ni)N coating was determined by Auger spectroscopy and the phase composition of the (Ti–B–Si–Ni)N coating was determined by X-ray phase analysis; a study of the properties of the coating (Ti–B–Si–Ni) was carried out by the scratching method (scratch testing). As a result of a comprehensive analysis of the results obtained, it was concluded that the high hardness of the (Ti–B–Si–Ni)N coating (more than 40 GPa) is due to its composition, which includes both nitrides and highly hard titanium borides. The heterophasic nature of the structure of this coating can serve as a contribution to the stressed state of the material. The coating has a gradient-layered structure. The material contains a Ti–B–Si–Ni layer bonding with the substrate and the main functional layer (Ti–B–Si–Ni) N. The coating has both high hardness and sufficient adhesion to the substrate (adhesion) determined by the scratch testing. The combination of these properties makes the material promising for its practical application in the production of tools.
