A Current Control Scheme for a Bi-Directional AC-DC Power Converter with Power Factor Correction by Using FLC for DC Micro Grid

Secondary controllers for hydrothermal multisource hydraulic systems (MSHS) have been built in this chapter using PDICs and FLCs. Two control areas are linked by a tie line, and each control area includes both hydroelectric and thermoelectric energy systems. Conventional controllers are unable to manage the frequency and power oscillations caused by a load that changes with time and load. A proportionally dual integral controller and a fuzzy logic controller have been designed to stabilize the switching frequency and enhance the dynamic characteristics of a multi-area, multi-source hydro thermal system.

Detection of Real Time Face Mask using Convolutional Neural Network

In recent years, the global pandemic like COVID - 19 has changed the lifestyle of people. Wearing face mask is must in order to stay safe and healthy. This paper presents a real-time face mask detector which identifies whether a human is wearing a mask or not. Moreover, this system can also recognize the person wearing a face mask inappropriately or wear other things except a face mask. The proposed algorithm for face mask detection in this system utilizes Haar cascade classifier to detect the face and Convolutional Neural Networks to detect the mask. The whole system has been demonstrated in a practical application for checking people wearing face mask.

Comparative analysis of different types of pulse width modulation techniques for multilevel inverters

Multilevel inverters have gained significant attention in recent years due to their ability to achieve higher voltage and lower harmonic distortion compared to conventional two-level inverters. Pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques play a crucial role in controlling multilevel inverters by generating the required switching signals for their power electronic devices. This paper presents a comprehensive comparative analysis of various PWM techniques employed in multilevel inverters, including sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM), space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM), carrier-based pulse width modulation (CBPWM), and selective harmonic elimination (SHEPWM). Each PWM technique's advantages, limitations, and suitability for different multilevel inverter topologies are discussed. Furthermore, recent advancements and hybrid PWM techniques are also examined to explore potential improvements in performance and efficiency. This paper aims to provide researchers, engineers, and practitioners with valuable insights into selecting the most appropriate PWM technique for their specific multilevel inverter applications, considering factors such as performance requirements, cost constraints, and ease of implementation.

Segmentation of Noise Stained Gray Scale Images with Otsu and Firefly Algorithm

Background/Objectives: The major aim of thework is to propose an efficient multi-level thresholding for gray scale image using Firefly Algorithm (FA). Methods/Statistical Analysis: The multi-level image thresholding is attempted using Otsu’s function and Firefly Algorithm (FA) using standard 512 x 512 sized gray scale image dataset. The robustness of the attempted segmentation process is tested by staining the test images with universal noises. The superiority of the FA based segmentation is validated with the heuristic algorithms, such as Bat Algorithm, Bacterial Foraging Optimization and Particle Swarm Optimization existing in the literature. Findings: The simulation result in this work conforms that, FA assisted segmentation offers better result compared to the alternatives. The robustness of the FA and Otsu based segmentation is also superior and offered improvedcost function, SSIM, PSNR value and reduced CPU time compared with the alternatives.
