Direct determination of the refraction index normal dispersion for thin films of 3, 4, 9, 10-perylene tetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA)

The improved approach for analysis of the thin film optical spectra exhibiting the interference fringes is presented. It is shown that, based on the positions of adjacent extrema, the interference order numbers can be easily identified allowing for determination of a model-free normal dispersion of the refraction coefficient provided the film thickness is known from an independent measurement. The usefulness of the presented method is illustrated by the analysis of the reflection spectra obtained for thin films of 3, 4, 9, 10-perylene tetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA) with various thicknesses determined with the atomic force microscopy (AFM).

Spectroscopic Properties of Pr³⁺Ion in Various Tellurite Glasses

The goal of this work was to investigate the spectroscopic properties of Pr 3+ ions (of a comparable concentration of the order of 0.2 mol/dm 3 ) embedded in the tellurite glass matrix, i.e.TeO2-WO3-PbO modied with lanthanum and lutetium oxides.The dierence is that the last components of both glasses provide ions which are optically inactive within the 4f shell, since this shell is completely empty for La 3+ ion and completely lled for Lu 3+ ion.The absorption and uorescence spectra of Pr 3+ doped in tellurite glass has been recorded and analyzed in terms of the JuddOfelt theory.The studies of the glasses comprised ellipsometric, spectrophotometric and photoluminescence measurements.The ellipsometric studies yield the refraction index dispersion which appears to be quite similar for all the studied glasses.From the spectrophotometric measurements, the absorption spectra have been obtained which, for Pr 3+ -doped samples, have been analyzed in terms of the JuddOfelt theory.Finally, the photoluminescence studies demonstrate a clear visible emission from 3 P0 level to lower-lying states of Pr 3+ ion.

Diffuse scattering in polyazomethine thin films

The results of optical studies of the diffuse reflectance and transmittance of polyazomethine (PPI) thin films prepared by the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique are reported. The obtained experimental data prove the presence of centers causing the Rayleigh-type scattering of light. These centers, with a spherical structure (spherolites), are formed in the process of crystallization during the growth of PPI films and they are responsible for the volume scattering of light.
